As a songwriter once said "Who's Sorry Now?"
It would appear that the Postal Service claims that they are suffering with a number of constraints such as charging the public what they say is the full price for mail delivery and are also banned from creating other avenues of revenue.
Looking at the voting polls at above website it would appear that a number of people are in favor of the idea of no mail delivery on Saturday.
And to think I have to wait until Monday to get my junk mail-pitiful.
I think they should have done it years ago. And if it had been up to me, I'd have gotten rid of Wednesday residential mail delivery as well.
Come to think of it, would a Monday/Wednesday/Friday residential mail delivery schedule really be that bad?
This is exactly what we've had on my street since 2008. It must have been an experiment in our neighborhood and it worked fine.
We haven't had Saturday mail delivery in Canada since I moved here in 1969. We manage to survive. I only check my mail every other day so I could even live with mail delivery 3 times a week.
I agree. Three times a week would be fine. With the financial mess the USPO is in a move like this is long overdue. The only concern I have is that there may be a corresponding revenue loss in third class mail.
That should not be a problem. Third class doesn't pay for itself anyway, and is heavily subsidized. Less third class mail should mean less subsidy.
I disagree.
Getting mail is cool especially if you like penpalling. And sending packages to others.
I'd rather pay my bills by mail than online.
What could be done is less "crap mail"- those who send that apparently aren't following the "save the paper rule"
whatever!
Will always love the post office! Love mail!

uh huh... and then we will do our mailing and commerce through the internet... right?
-until it gets taken over by our government or another government, (ah china..choo..bless me...) or an asteroid hits the power stations, or the solar rays strike the power stations.
I don't mind the loss of Saturday mail delivery. They will still deliver packages on Saturday. But I do think the PO should stay in place as a government agency. There are too many reasons for it to continue. The main one is that we will have electronic problems in future, and we need a means to deliver by person when necessary. There has been a concerted effort to privatize the PO, and one thing that was done to force the issue was the savings of retirement by some ridiculously overblown amount. The PO is literally the only agency that's required to do that. I can only wonder who's making the deal with which corporations for this post office regulation not to be reversed in light of the financial difficulties the PO is having.
The transfer of a lot of mail to the internet is enough of a burden without adding the retirement stuff to it.
It's just gonna give Fed Ex and UPS the edge. Oh well....it was bound to happen.
The less frequent delivery is, the more they would drive all those profitable companies that buy a lot of stamps to move to another service. Along with anyone who wants their post to get there as quickly as possible.

Do you care if, as of August, there is no longer Saturday mail delivery in the US?The PO has said they will stop Saturday mail delivery in August, 2013. It sounds like a good money saver to me. They will still deliver packages.

What would happen if the U.S. got rid of home mail delivery?I have a P.O. Box, so I don?t depend on home mail delivery. There?s always an outcry, though, when the subject of cutting back on home mail delivery is brought up. Does America really need it anymore?

The Republicans want to introduce a bill to stop home delivery of mail. Instead they propose the United States Postal Service set up "mail hubs" or in other words, designated areas with clusters of mail boxes for pickup. Apparently in the zest to streamline the postal service there seems...

Are you in favor of ending U.S. Postal Service delivery on Saturdays? The U.S. Postal Service is ending delivery on Saturdays starting in August 2013. Are you in favor of this policy change? This is obviously a prudent money saving move by the Postal Service (which is losing money),...

One thing I frequently see in time in American films is Mail Boxes by the kerbside of residential homes. It’s something that’s always puzzled me because we don’t have them in the UK e.g. in the UK the postman always walks up the garden path and pushes the letters through the letter box in the...
