What are the guiding principles of your life?

   What I am looking for are specific principles rather than, say, general references to religious writings or religious figures. A quote of a religious leader or from a religious book would be great though.  I'll start out with mine as an example.
   
   The guiding principles of my life are four character traits:
   1.  honesty
   2.  purity
   3.  unselfishness
   4.  Love
   If I can live somewhat consistently according to these standards, I will have lived a good life.

      1.) Learning to listen to the needs of others
      2.) Love the ones who love you. Love those who you wish you could send to the moon!
      3.) Letting go of things that stop me from laughing and enjoying life!
      4.) Loyalty for those who deserve to be given loyalty
      5.) Humility, This one life is all we have to learn how to be significant to others, and when we see how far we have come or how close we are.   This is the time to stop and say thank you Universe.

      I have to say this knowledge guides me, for without it I'd be confused and hopeless------
      
      There is a God.
      I am not Him.
      I am just dust of the earth except for the fact that He Loves me.
      I Love Him because He first Loved me.

   I have more of a guiding belief... that my life is an adventure and journey. Contemplating this helps me to see with awareness and overcome my "programming". Of course I uphold the standard values of honesty, love, etc... as principles too, but I don't use them to guide me. If I were to name principles that DO guide me, I would think of: curiosity, wonder, gratefulness, understanding... anything that allows me a deeper insight into my fellow man, and ultimately myself.

   I didn't really mean to ignore my forum post.  The responses so far are outstanding examples of principles that guide us in life.  It is so helpful to have something like what we have been discussing as opposed to just drifting through life.  Thanks, I hope we have some more input.
