Writers at HubPages with English as a second language

   Hi,
   
   I'm a real newbie here at HubPages. English is only my second language. Therefore, I would like to exchange information with other hubbers that have English as a second language. How are you doing here at HubPages? Isn't it hard to compete with the native speakers?
   
   I'm looking forward to your experience.

      From what I can see you have an excellent command of the English language, probably better than many native English speakers.

      I agree with Izzy - you have a good command of English. It's certainly a challenge for anyone to master and regularly use a language other than their native tongue. But it is indeed possibe, and HP welcomes writers from all backgrounds. It's not a matter of competing; we don't compete with each other - we only compete with ourselves.  Everyone here succeeds to the best of their own ability, and any standards they're weighed against (by readers) are those of the language itself, not the site.

         thank you very much for your helpful comment. It is indeed a challenge to write in English but I think it is worth it.  When I signed in my account today, I saw that my first hub got featured. I really love writing whether in English or in German. So I will try to write as best as I can.

      hello, I'm a Filipina from the Philippines (of course)  and English is my second language too.  I think it's alright if English is not our native language because as far as I am concerned, I am doing good  here and native English speaking hubbers are kind and nice.   There are no criticism or discrimination here as long as you know you have the passion for writing and sharing your talents.  Be confident and love what you're doing!  Have a good day!

   Hey!
   I have English as my forth language and I am doing pretty well on HubPages. If you've always been good at English and have a decent grammar and orthography there won't be any problems for you to compete with native English speakers.

   English is my second language, and I have no problems at all with writing or competing with other so-called native speakers. It's not about whether it's your native language, but whether you want it to be better than your native language.

   Yes-- I read your first hub rather quickly-- and there may be a few small mistakes, but I will have to say  that if you did not tell us, up front, that English is your second language, I would not have picked up on that fact.
   You obviously put a lot of effort into your first hub, and I think you will do fine here. Welcome to HubPages. I wish you good luck and a good writing experience.

   Glad to see a fellow Filipino. As others have said, it is not a matter of being a native English speaker. If you know that you can write very well in English, there would be no problem. I hope you enjoy your stay here!

   Whether you're a native American English speaker or not, doesn't matter at all. As long as you can come up with quality contents, you are expected to be successful here. I'm a Filipina as well and it's good to see "kababayans" here. Welcome to Hubpages and Good luck!

   Welcome to Hubpages, janetwrites!  English is also my second language, and I'm doing just fine.  You seem to have a good command of the English language, so you're good to go.

   janetwrites, I like your thread! English is my second language and Swedish is my first language. I currently live and work in London so I get to speak/write in English daily. I do not feel that it's hard to compete with other native speakers on this platform. I do notice that Hubpages has a big audience from the US but I write my hubs in British English (although I don't think anyone can really notice the difference).  I think that being bilingual is more of a help than a hindrance most of the time. You have the advantage of speaking fluently in two languages and understanding those cultures. Welcome to Hubpages!

    I have been writing in English only since last year. I'm pretty sure I could write much better, and I make mistakes all the time, but I am trying, and I think that's important. I hope I'll get better in time - practice is everything :-).

    Hi Janet, welcome to Hubpages. I hope you enjoy it here in our hubland. I´m a born Filipina married to a German for many years now. Actually, English is my third language as I speak German  everyday as a 2nd language at home in Germany. It´s okey to speak and write in English though it´s not our native language as long as we practise it everyday and learn from our mistakes. You write very well in English. Being here in Hubpages is great. Good luck to your writings;-)
