Hub not featured after pending process

    I just spent a lot of time on this hub; I did my research, cited my sources as usual, and published it yesterday with a rating of 70. However, it no longer says it is pending and it is not featured. I was wondering if someone can look it over, and possibly tell me why? Thanks.

      I have had the same problem. I no longer try to find answers here or with staff. I simply move the article somewhere else.  Much too time consuming here.

      It's good to see your Hub is now featured, but it's still worth trying to work out why it didn't get through the QAP. 

      The big problem I see is that your paragraphs look long.  They're not, really, but where there's an ad or an image floated to the right, they look long and indigestible - the first paragraph especially.

      The first para probably looked fine to you, because when you wrote it you couldn't see the ad that now appears next to it.  That's why it's always worth previewing your Hub, to see how it's going to look to the reader.

      I'd say the same thing about the photo.   If you're going to start your Hub with a full-width photo, it needs to be a really great one - one that grabs the reader's attention.  The cleaning products photo would be fine if it was floated right, but it's not engaging enough to take centre stage like that.

      The quality assessors work fast - I'm guessing the assessor who looked at your Hub saw the photo and the "stodgy" first paragraph and decided 'this is going to be boring'.  First impressions count!

    Who knows?  It's probably too concise or too long.  It seems HP now wants very brief info hubs to suit Google's preferences, not well researched articles as one would think.  It's the whole "dumbing down" thing of quick gratification on the net.  Sad, I know.

    I'd contact HP via email - there was another writer who had the same problem with a quality hub.

    I have no clue. I know that hubs are pulled if they are "overly promotional" which I do not think that it is...are there a lot of links to the same place or product. Hopefully someone has the answer but I thought if there was a problem or "violation" you had an alert... Check for those! Good luck. I am anxious to see the answer

    Very nice hub, well laid out, informative and without grammar or spelling errors.

    The only thing I can see is the slim possibility that the first photo is not being well received.  Saying that you got it from a commercial facebook page does not indicate that you have permission to take it - you may have just copied it onto your hub without ever asking or receiving that permission, and neither could I find the photo to verify that it is available to any that want it.

    Outside of that, my only suggestion is to contact HP directly, asking for guidance.

    @Wilderness, I was wondering about that picture, It's actually my sister's who is an amateur photographer, and most of the pictures I use are hers, that was one she emailed me for use with my hubs. Do I need to put that it is copyright, and what would I put as my source if she gave it to me via email? Any help is appreciated smile

      When I publish hubs with my father's pictures I always put 'Used with permission of xxxx yyyy' - I also add a copyright notice, and in my case a link to my dad's photo website.

      Simey's right - you need to give some indication of who actually owns the photo and that you have permission to use it.  HP likes to be able to actually see where the pic came from; if it's an email that obviously isn't possible, and that's all right, but when you can you should link to the actual work.

    I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the Flesch Reading Ease of the article? I quickly copied and pasted it into Word and it came out at 44%. The optimum target for web content is 60%. Perhaps try breaking it up into shorter sentences. Also, and this is a purely personal view, the text seemed rather crowed together. A few more gaps would make the reading a little easier, even though they are paragraphs! wink

    Hope this helps and is viewed as constructive criticism. I am used to writing technical reports and sometimes get carried away when writing for HubPages. That is why I have been checking the FRE before submitting my hubs recently.

    Hey summerclark7387! We (specifically, Mark Painter) noticed the problem and you'll find that your Hub is now Featured. Thanks for bringing up the issue; we're still refining our Quality Assessment Process and are doing everything we can to prevent good Hubs from falling through the cracks (while also not Featuring Hubs that are clearly of low quality).

      To see if it is feature just go to your account and look for an "H" in the featured column.  If it is featured, Google will find it eventually.

    The photo really doesn't help. Perhaps get an image that is illustrating your point, rather than just of some cleaning products... perhaps some cleaners wearing gas masks? I have noticed that you tend to switch your language style mid sentence? That sounds a bit stupid tbh, starting with the term "people" or "consumers" then switching to "one" and going all proper English. It's confusing. It looks as though you have merged two totally different articles. One formal, the other more conversational. There are also some spelling errors, perhaps proof read it then resubmit? Hope this helps.

    One time I posted a new hub and it did not show any icon beside it - pending, or whatever.  I opened it and clicked on the edit mode, and then saved it again.  Then it appeared in the list as "pending."  Could just be a technical glitch - there seem to be several around this week.

    The same thing happened to me on Triond! Interesting though Triond said my article was a duplicate but it wasn't. In fact-I wrote it without even doing research because I wrote it based on my area of expertise. I did not like that at all but what could I say. I did let them know that it was not a duplicate but. That was my word against their system.

    sometimes more than one person have the same knowledge...so the IDEA could be too similar to another article already on the web...try a different approach to the point you're trying to make...think of something out of this world...that surely won't be a duplicate
