Is there some strategy to having a hub make it to the topics page, or is it a random selection thing?
Does anyone know?
Thx.
Hi Shirley,
The topics page is for popular topics. Topics that appear on the page are the ones that are most popular at the time. The hubs shown for each topic must also be popular--I think the ones shown are based on hubscore and traffic.
not sure, but I think it's whatever is the hottest ie: most viewed that has those tags. it changes constantly because those numbers change constantly, although some particular ones get heavy hits regularly and hence stay up there.
social bookmarking sites might be helping with that too. even without hits, one that is heavily marked will stay high in score.
I just noticed one of my hubs reviewing Fat Loss 4 Idiots is one of the featured hubs on the hubpages homepage. Funny thing, I ain't getting any traffic from it.
I think too, staff posted they change the algorithm fairly regularly to give different hubs a chance to be seen.
not sure on that, perhaps someone on Staff can confirm.
Thx a lot. What you've said makes perfect sense, although vrecc's article showing on the homepage even tho it's had no traffic doesn't. Must be his good looks.
Misha, I was referring to the Topics page that you click on at the top of the screen. I was asking if there's some way to get our hubs showing in the lists on that page, or if it is a random selection. Now I know that it has to do with the scores (probably, anyway).
Thx again, everyone!
Shirley
Oh, well, obviously there are still some areas of Hubpages I have no clue about
I never went there - but yeah, it looks like it should depend on traffic or hubscore...
And make sure you tag your hub with relevant 'topic' tags. If you don't, your hub might not make it to that topic. I think.
Kenny,
That is good advice -to tag it the predefined topic titles of the title page. I think that does make a difference.
Actually what you said above is not the same as what Kenny said, or at least that's how the it sounds to me. Kenny said "make sure you tag your hub with relevant 'topic' tags." To me, a relevant topic tag means it should be relevant to the Hub content, not just be a tag that you see on the topic page, which is what your statement seems to be implying.
Tagging irrelevantly just to try and get on the homepage can get your Hub flagged and unpublished.
And.. thanks for the "good looks" compliment, Shirly. I must be getting better with age.
Thx all. I'm going to go try the tagging thing now.
Keep lookin' good, vrecc!

I have noticed that, when signed out, there is a new homepage. I am not sure whether the new format is helpful. There are some great hubbers featured making statements on how much they earn from this site, the rewards and a massive video that talks about HubPages. There are also...

I wish I could exclude Q&A when I want to view hubs while signed in. Also, you can only see 5 hubs, and they are always the same. I wish there was some way they could rotate the hubs on the front page more frequently. Whether sorted by "popular" or "best" anyone who looks at...

I'm sure this was obvious to everyone else, but I'm slow on the uptake when it comes to some things. We've been complaining a bit more lately about the severe and many foibles of the QAP and hubbers have done so for years. QAP is still very weak and there's an awful lot of junk content on HP. So...

After the recent Panda Update, most of my hubs are indexed on HubPages (Topics Page) instead of my sub-domain.My Google authorship was gone after the Panda Update (before the update it was there) and most of my hubs are indexed on HubPages (Topics Page). The URL link in the Google search to most of...

Writing has always been my way of talking when no-one is listening so finding HubPages is as good as picking up the phone and knowing there is someone on the other end of the line.My problem is that I have so much to write about I don't know what my niche is or if I even want one. What do you think...
