That blogspot post you mention looks like it was published back on September 10, 2012. If you received your dup warning for your original article after just a few days how could that be possible?

It is the responsibility of Hubbers to protect their own copyright.  In this case the offender appears to own a time machine, so there may be nothing you can do to stop them.

This is indeed worrying, if the plagiarists are now stealing people's work before they've even written and published it, we are all doomed!  wink

I don't know about blogspot, but if you have a website running wordpress you can alter timestamps.

Yes, sometimes I get lazy and just do all of my Wordpress articles in one day, then I change the time and date so they look like they were published on different days. I guess there would be no way to prove that a hub was published first. But like you said Lifefusion, I am not sure about other blogging platforms and if it's possible to change the time and date their article was published. I also publish on Squidoo and a lot of my articles were copied. Squidoo doesn't just flag my original articles but they help us go after the website and get it shut down for stealing our original work.

This has always be a problem to writers. But, I think you can still challenge those that doing that by contacting them.

  4. shergs profile image60

Everyone, I already told you from the beginning of my post that I've been here twice before. This current account is already my third. So I made that point clear to avoid your mind doing a wild imagination as you did.

I was banned twice as I said, one for a topic not allowed and another for duplicate reasons. I contacted the admin before, but no one answered. Instead, they banned me from the site. I thought the site now is better than it was before so I returned, only to find seasoned writers leaving and jumping boats because the site is getting worse, I guess.

I doubt that he's thinking of leaving any more - already banned.  What a shocker that someone already banned twice is now banned a third time.

    2. MelissaBarrett profile image59
MelissaBarrettposted 11 years agoin reply to this

They can't.  It isn't their job anyway.  No hosting site can protect your copyright.  As the owner of your content it is your responsibility anyway.  This has been the way it was since the inception of copyright laws.

In short, if you own it- it is your responsibility to protect it.

That's how copyright works in pretty much every creative venue, in every nation and internationally (for as much as international copyright laws are enforceable anyway).  You are asking HP to do something that virtually nobody else does.

  6. MarieAlana1 profile image67
    MarieAlana1posted 11 years ago

Is there a way that HP can block people from copying content? I've seen this on some sites.

    1. profile image0
Casimiroposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Yeah, except that ultimately there is no way to prevent someone stealing your content. After all, even a bonehead can do a screenshot and re-type the article (or use OCR).

Beth37posted 11 years agoin reply to this

So which is it... we can't protect ourselves or we should protect ourselves?

  7. psycheskinner profile image84
    psycheskinnerposted 11 years ago

Rather than getting outraged because an automated program found a duplicate, you could calmly inform hubstaff that they had copied it from your previous account (which normally gets the flag removed) and file DMCAs with the infringing users of your material.

    1. wilderness profile image93
wildernessposted 11 years agoin reply to this

If it was there before the hub was, the hub is the duplicate.

If the original, owned by the OP, is now gone then the stolen copy is now the original, with no way to prove otherwise.  If HP allows it to remain then they are guilty of allowing stolen material on the site.

Even the Hollow and Empty Content is flogged from here...

Even some of the crappiest almost-hubbers are suffering from having their personal ports savagely and anonymously, opened, plugged into and tampered with against their wills...

Surely HP could provide some sort of practical rubber device to roll out and to help us all control such unfortunate nocturnal transmissions!

I'm sure that Idling hubs is not the only way of protecting us from being raped like this?? sad

As a Newbie, I am disappointed that you were unable to resolve your issues with HP.  I have publishd only one article.  My second article was put on non-pub  status because of a link violation.  Even though I replaced the link with a more appopriate one, I was advised that the non-pub status could not be reversed.  Now, it has been deleted.  I wish that it was possible to communicate directly with the Administration re problems.  HP members helped me to resolve my issue by takng respnsibility for getting my post out there by going with the flow and doing something different.

I regret that you have been banned for the third time.  It is obvious to me that you really like being a part of the HP community as you have returned after being banned on two occassions.  I would recommend that you assess your behaviors and make an intention to change your thinking and your life circumstances.  Discovering the role you have played in causing your failures will enable you  to experience success in your next venture.

    Bon Voyage!

I am getting the feeling that someone can steal our hubs and publish them elsewhere and change the date to one earlier than when our hubs were written and this way it looks like we are copying them instead of the other way around and we are flagged for duplicate content.

    1. MelissaBarrett profile image59
MelissaBarrettposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Not sure you can change the date... Google knows which page was indexed first.

  21. lovebuglena profile image87
    lovebuglenaposted 11 years ago

Maybe it's time to include a copyright notice at the end of every hub we write but that actually means nothing as others can still steal our work and publish it elsewhere. sad There really seems to be no way to protect our work.
