   Here's Bill Maher actually admitting, to the chagrin of Rachael Madcow..that the wealthy pay most of the taxes and he is having a hard time dealing with his taxes in California!!!!!
   
   Now how can that possibly be??????

      Not sure there are many liberals around who would actually call Bill Maher a liberal. Politically, he can be all over the place. And the idea that the wealthy in general pay most of the taxes is of course completely wrong, but it's always nice to see rich people whining about their great troubles. And considering effective tax rates are internationally and historically low, both for individuals and corporations, any claim that taxes are too high is somewhat bewildering.

         Junkseller is an appropriate name, however I'm not buying. Here are the statistics on who pays the majority of tax and it shows you to be completely wrong. By the way, Bill Maher is an ultra-liberal.

               I have HBO I have like 8 different HBO's. His presence does not keep me from enjoying Trueblood and many other shows.
               
               I just don't watch his show, I'm not a big fan of whiners.

            Being that you start out with an insult, I guess you aren't really interested in a conversation. The statistics you provided show only information about federal income taxes. You do realize there are many more categories of taxes, right?
            
            As for Maher, I didn't say what he was. I just said that I don't know that liberals would call him one. I can't speak for liberals as a whole, but the ones I know would not be very welcoming to him.

               I didn't really mean it as an insult I apologize. Yes, there are many other taxes than just federal, but rest assured the rich pay the majority of those as well.

            What Bill Maher is, isn't a terribly worthwhile discussion, in my opinion. It's pretty easy to say he's a Democrat considering his large monetary donation to Obama. Policy-wise, as well, he often falls into the Democratic camp. However, as far as I know, he has only self-professed to being a libertarian. Whatever his true heart is, I don't know, or really care, but I doubt you know either. He has in the past made far too many derogatory comments about women for me to personally consider him a liberal.
            
            In some ways I think it is comparable to Rush Limbaugh. Though technically a Conservative, I am sure there are plenty of conservatives who don't really want to be in the same tent as him. Not necessarily for having disparate views, but for having a distaste for the way he goes about things.
            
            You are of course welcome to put these types of individuals in whatever tent you want, but when someone goes around calling women sluts and bitches, the tent which I personally put them in, is the douchebag tent. Additionally, equality is an important element of liberalism, so even without having personal distaste for his comments, it probably is a legitimate reason to say he doesn't really belong.

               You make some good points.  However, I don't really consider somebody more likely to be conservative if they make derogatory comments about women either.  I just consider them to be a jerk.  There are jerks on both sides of American politics.  Still, good points.

            Liberals want to advance the social good and social equality and justice. Taxes are a potential tool for accomplishing said goal, no different from virtually every other political philosophy in existence, including conservatism.

                  Do you ever watch Maher? He is constantly complaining that the rich don't pay enough obviously he entered into a new tax bracket and is discovering that they are the only ones paying.

         I agree with you too.  Some leeway must be given to people in his profession.  For what it is worth, his actions, in his own free time, suggest that he is a democrat, regardless of whatever he says he is.  Follow the money, and you'll find that he donates money to democrats.  Few republicans would do that.

   I don't know about the rich, but I can certainly say I'm paying too much in taxes.  If it's not a federal tax, it's a state tax, local tax, sales tax, land tax, phone tax, air tax, electricity tax, garbage tax, death tax, etc.  The government gets more of my money than I do, and I'm far from rich.  There's a problem with that.
