    There is the ubiquitous "theres" vs. theirs," but it also irks me when people say "I could care less" when they really mean they COULDN'T care less about something.

    quite - quiet 

    When people drop the last letters of words while speaking and say 'fer' instead of 'for', 'somethin' instead of something.  If you listen closely, you'll find many people drop letters.

    The misuse of the apostrophe is my biggest pet peeve (ie. "I have six cat's).  A friend who grades HS essays has seen "right from the gecko" more than once (instead of "right from the get-go").
