Hello Hubbers! As some of you know, I am a writer/director/female in the weird world of Hollywood. I decided to bring my project Out There... to kickstarter to try and raise the movie's basic funds. It's been up for 5 days and we've raised 400 bucks, which is awesome, but we need to raise $200,000.00 and we only have 25 more days. So, I figured I'd turn to the people who seem to know everything about everything... YOU! This is my first crowdsourcing campaign, and I've got some amazing people attached ( I am SO grateful) but we have only had around 80 views on the page. I've started a facebook for it <link removed> and our website <link removed> is a redirect, but this doesn't seem to be doing the trick! Any ideas or suggestions you have (even with the actual page) are so appreciated! Please help a hubber out! smile Thank YOU! <link removed>

Okay. Female, writer, director, - that's three good reasons to take a look. Off I go for a quick look now. smile

Well, you certainly have some good people in place. I hope you raise the money.

I notice Kimberly J. Brown has mentioned the project and your kickstarter effort on her twitter account. Shame there's only 5,842 followers. 10 times that many would be good. smile Are the other people involved also mentioning it to their followers?

Presumably you have approached the local governments (state and local) to see if they'll kick in some funding money.

Have you written media releases about your search for funding? You can issue a press release online. Just look for a nice angle that might get you coverage in newspapers etc and maybe you could even pick up a tv current affairs program with your struggling director story line.

You could send info about your kickstarter efforts to acting, film and television schools etc and ask them to put it in their next newsletter. In Australia, for instance, NIDA (the National Institute of Dramatic Art) might have some young people interested in kicking in a bit of spare cash. It's a long time since I've had anything to do with people from NIDA, but it's a thought that springs to mind.

You could point out to all these types of schools that it's a chance for their students to 1) get involved if they'd like and 2) learn about kickstarter because they might need to use it in the future.

Have you spent a day trying to contact every famous face you can think of who might be prepared to at the very least put a message on twitter to their millions of followers?

I'm an aussie so I'd be thinking Hugh Jackman, Mel Gibson, Russell Crowe. You and your friends must be able to come up with a similar list. (Heck, add these three to your list anyway. Aussies are always willing to give the underdog a bit of a lift when possible.)

You'll find Hugh's wife Deborra-lee Furness on facebook. She's a brilliant woman who might have a few hints for you. Can't speak on her behalf, of course, but I'm shooting you some ideas. If you personally know someone like her, then approach them instead.

That should be enough to get on with. I do wish you the best of luck!!

Wow! Thank you so much! These are great ideas! Some of them we've played with, where would one put out press releases online? I haven't seen much of that... I can't thank you enough! smile -Bo

Just google 'online media release'. A whole bunch of places will show up.

Spend some time constructing it properly before you post. You don't want to miss a golden opportunity. Remember to try and put a direct link in to your kickstarter page. Make sure you stress your time frame, and make it newsworthy!! Hang it on something that happened today or will happen tomorrow. Give the current amount you've earned or something that makes it news and not just an advert.

        Good luck. smile

So smart! Thank you so much! smile will do so first thing in the morning! We do have something newsworthy... We are giving away actual evidence of Alien encounters as prizes on our kickstarter... bet that's never been done before! lol

I'd agree with you there, bb. Sounds like a first to me.

I'm sure other hubbers will have other good ideas about using social media etc. There's lots of tools that I don't use, but if you wait for the experts I'm sure they'll give you some extra advice.

You need some media exposure.  I wrote a hub in the past 2-3 days about the World's Smallest Digital Fisheye Camera - and he's developed the camera and is seeking similar funding (from Indiegogo).  The story was all over the papers so he's had MASSIVE exposure.

Can you phone the local news programmes and do an interview about your exciting project?

    All the best.

Edit: Oh ... looks like I was a bit behind the party and that's been suggested/you're onto it .... at least if two people said it independently it MUST be right though smile
