Why is BritSpeak so darn cute? You have to admit that "Everything's gone pear-shaped. So get your finger out and give it a wellie or I'll mess you about." sounds so much better than what us Americans would say. smile

    What's your favorite British slang?

When I hung out with the Royal Navy that taught me a little Cockney Rhyming Slang like Sherman Tank Yank for Americans which means they would call Americans Shermans.

I remember a childhood friend's mother used to say "I shall ave your guts for garters" when threatening the kids! She was a wonderful lady who had been through the London Blitz, her husband was a fireman in London during the war.

She always said "I shall have your guts for garters" and the way she said shall still scares me.
The other thing I recall is that she drank tea all day, dozens of "cuppers" were made throughout the day and night, a "Nice cuppa" seemed to be the solution to most of life's problems!

As a kid I drank a lot of "Billy" tea brewed over an open fire in the Australian bush. The lady in question loved her tea very strong. She always let the tea sit for 1 minute before pouring.I loved her English "cuppa"
