How about "Helpful" in the voting section of each hub?

Under each hub there is a voting area with the "thumbs up", "thumbs down", along with:
    Useful • Funny  • Awesome • Beautiful  • Interesting

How about "Helpful" instead of, or in addition to "Useful"?

To me, sometimes "useful" does not truly convey how I feel about the helpfulness of the hub.

Thanks for allowing me to share my opinion.

Yes you are right! I'd prefer 'helpful' rather than 'useful'.

I do, too! Great recommendation Troy. I'll bring this up in this week's community meeting and see if the group is amenable to the change. big_smile

      Hi again Troy!

So sorry for the delay in response. We discussed the potentiality of switching "Useful" to "Helpful," but ultimately decided to stick with useful as we use that word (instead of "Helpful") in other aspects of our site messaging, hence we have a desire to keep things more cohesive.

That said, I truly appreciate the recommendation! I do think that "Helpful" has a nice ring to it; it just doesn't happen to match as well with what we already have.

Is it just me, or do many people just bypass the thumbs up or down, and "useful" or "awesome" or whatever? I have hubs with many views that have only one or two thumbs up or down. Do they matter that much in the course of things? If so, I wish people would remember to take the time to use them.

That's a good idea, Tony, but I think there's a reason behind "useful" as a feedback choice. One of the main goals of creating original hubs is to create something that the reader can 'use' to either fix, make, build, create, or duplicate something. Have you noticed the Hub of the Day winners? Most of them are 'how tos' with steps and directions that are more useful to readers than helpful.

Maybe it's really just semantics and interpretation but from my observation, HubPages wants us to do more of the 'useful' type of hub that readers are searching for. So having 'useful' as a feedback choice gives important information about the hub that probably helps with the QAP rating, traffic, and search optimization.

I agree... having "helpful" as an option makes more sense, because if a hub isn't "useful" then the hub most likely would not pass the initial HubPages staff evaluation period.

I'm with janshares on this one. Useful encompasses much more than 'helpful'. Useful has connotations of using this to spur you on to greater things, to use the information in many ways, even if it is just to store it in your memory. .'helpful', on the other hand, seems to deal more with solutions that are presented to a particular problem.
