Does anybody actually get traffic from page 2 or 3 search results??

   I just found a great tool to track my hubs search results position. I have several on P2 or P3... Personally, I don't recall ever opening a page 2 search result...Has anyone seen any search engine traffic from a site deeper than page 1 ??

      I've got one that hangs out at position 1 on page 2 and I've got one that hangs out on position 8-10 of page one.  The one on page two consistently gets more traffic...That might have something to do with search volume though, or the fact that all the first page results for that keyword suck most thoroughly.

      I didn't think there were any free tools that gave you an accurate result these days - which one are you using?
      
      I frequently go to page 2 these days as I find Google tends to present me with video or shopping links first and that's no good when I'm looking for information or opinion.

         Same here... especially when I'm researching a topic.  I often go pretty deep in the SERP's just so that I can make sure I'm presenting something new/fresh and also to make sure I can surpass my competition.  I also use variations of my keywords in search to see which sites are ranking for those words.

   If it makes you feel any better, I regularly check out up to page 4 in Google's search results because some of the "top" results are sites I don't want to visit (same ol' hash and re-hash type of articles).

   Whatever keywords you are targeting, your article can come up in search results for queries you didn't plan.  A Google employee made this statement once: "A quarter of all daily searches on Google have never been seen before." So, there are multiple possibilities for your article to be returned on a search results page.
   
   If you look in your Google Webmaster Tools account under 'Optimization', you'll find the search queries bringing traffic to your webpage and how your page ranked on Google.

      Hello mr fox...thanks for your input...When I select my keyword or keyword  phrases I am trying rank for (using seo tools), someone once told me to limit those to 3-4 max.
      Do you agree with that opinion?

         I think that advice is outdated.  Google is on the lookout for linking patterns - limiting yourself to three or four keywords or keyword phrases means that your pattern of linking is likely to be very obvious.

   Healthy Pursuits...@ Authority Labs, you get very accurate rankings details for each and every keyword that you ask to track..up to 10 per domain. All 3 search engines. It's a $50 hit, but you can stretch out the 30 day trial into 3 or 4 months using other e-mails and alias'. I'm in my third month, I will spend the 50 sooner or later...its well worth it.
   Whatever the limit on domains is must be a bunch...I haven't got there yet.

   If I am looking for information about something that is important to me, I usually trawl through at least 100 pages of search results. That is a habit that was instilled in me by lecturers during my postgraduate studies in library and information studies. It is amazing how many valuable pages are found very low down in search results.

       Donna, I've got a hub about an alligator found in Michigan too. Strange subject, but I still get traffic. Mine is on page one too. This is way off topic. Sorry.
       
       I've found too that if you search farther in the pages, you can find some good stuff. If we feel this way, it must be others do it too.
