   The ADs which HP said had been restored

   It only applies to hubs published in the last few days.

      It's been restored on most Hubs. There are still some Hubs (i.e., Hubs that receive almost no traffic) that do not have the 250x250 ad. We're still testing different layouts. The important thing is that the vast majority of Hubs have that [250x250] ad back.

         Every new hub in the latest published list that I have looked at does not have this ad. Is this a change of policy? This is important for me as I organise the layout to maximize the potential earning power of this ad. Perhaps hubbers generally need to know about this change, not just those that read the forums.
         A new hub cannot have traffic and so all new hubs will be published without this ad, I guess? It would be nice to know.

            Yes. We are testing less ads on Hubs with very few lifetime (mostly new) views to see if it impacts traffic to new Hubs.  It has a minimal impact on revenue, but may be beneficial to long term traffic. The Hub preview still includes that ad location, so you can still optimize the layout of your Hubs.
            
            We don't make formal announcements about small ad tests because they are frequent and may change. I know there was a lot of concern with our previous lack of announcement regarding the Related Search units and we regret not announcing it beforehand. We do plan to keep the community informed of all permanent ad changes as we make them.

   I wonder if this explains why in the last couple of weeks my income is right down bearing in mind I do have a number of hubs which do not attract a huge amount of monthly views!!

      Quick test shows that the threshold to have ALL the ads displayed is about 100 lifetime hits
      
      Maybe there is a new symbol required - Half Ads Disabled!.
      
      Sorry, but I find this decision to pull the ad off new ads extremely disheartening. You spend 3 hours carefully crafting a fabulous hub with lots of great images, 5 hours for a stellar or 8+ hub. You wait patiently for it to go through pending (up to 2 days) when no ads are displayed.
      
      Three cheers it passed!! Finally its time to earn a few pennies!!
      BUT NO, hang on a minute, HP has decided to NOT show the one ad that will really generate income. Only half of the best ads are displayed.
      
      Sorry, but this is devastating! Where's the incentive.? Why pull the ad? It must reduce income when its pulled!!! How does that benefit the author in any way???
      
      No earnings to the author from Related Search Ads - Now This.

         Sounds like a good possibility that the test is successful.  Costing a couple of pennies now, it may well generate $ down the road a bit.  A good gamble, but of course not all tests will do so well.

               Completely unrelated links, it is complete bollocks!   There is a skyscraper ad also on the page.
               
               It is blatantly obvious that it is screaming to the reader, "CLICK HERE, Click here" following them as they read, of course it is in no way related, but the entire time the reader is on the page they are being lured to someone else's revenue source!  The ads on my page are more related, especially using my keywords!!!
               
               I want HP to earn from my efforts, no problem with that, but let me ask one question.
               
               How many links can we place on our OWN hubs leading to other pages we own outside of the site?  I think HP should stick to the same agreement!  If I am not wrong it is two!

         1. The NEW layout for ALL of HP will not have the 250x250 ad top right
         2. Revenue per page for the author will be lower
         3. Revenue per page to HP will be higher because it focuses user attention more on the Related Search ADS
         Why doesn't HP do its testing on Staff Hubs and Volunteers like most companies do?
         I for one am sick of being a guinea pig and losing.
         If HP experiments with my live hubs, and it fails, and I lose 10% of my income - that income is gone!!! 'Minimal' is significant, when income this month is way down. CPM is down, Traffic is down.
         HP can change the layout anyway, anytime for what ever reason, put ads on, pull them off, but I would appreciate being kept informed at what is happening and why. Looks like that is too much to ask!

   Minimal is a floppy word.  My CPM seems to be down a bit over a dollar during the latest round of testing.  When your earnings are already minimal, that's a lot.

      Hard for me to tell.  It drops precipitously every Thursday, Friday anyway.  I'm down considerable from Wednesday, but not from last Thursday.
      
      I've also dropped overall from a couple of months ago - something I've been expecting to see as we go into summer.  Coupled with a loss of traffic from G's latest shenanigans it hurts to the tune of several dollars per day but is not something I could write off to playing with the ads.

         In either case, I have learned that a descriptive word says more about a person's attitude than the underlying data.  I once had a author tell me her book sold "well" in the first year, it turned out to be 15 copies in total. Well/minimal is in the eye of the beholder.

   On a separate note compared to earnings, I actually think the hubs look 'naked' without the Ads there. However much you try to make the top part of your hub look neat, the writing seems to make it top heavy, unless you add a photo of course.

      I'm not publishing any more hubs while that ad is disabled. It means the loss of at least 100 impressions and 100 potential clicks per hub - for what benefit? Much better prospects elsewhere. Cheers!

   More changes....Overall, in the past year all I have had is page views drop.  The many, many changes have NOT had a positive effect on any of my hubs.  I have a variety of topics and subjects and various layouts.  You would think that at least one of these many changes would have a positive effect on at least one of my hubs.
   
   This time last year, and prior to that, I used to spend hours here weekly, working, publishing and tweaking.  I have become so discouraged now, I simply pop in every now and then to see which hub has been unfeatured, unpublish it and move it to my blog.
   
   New material being added by me is not in my plans at this time.  Too much time spent with little return nowadays.
