Would this be OK?

I was thinking about writing a hub about a certain topic. I have written an ebook about this topic, but my hub would have a different take. I was wondering if it would be permissible to put a link to download the (free) ebook in a sidebar. I know affiliate links and stuff like that are not aloowed. I wasn't sure if it would be allowable to link to my own product, especially since I am offering it for free. Thanks.

      Hi Connie 120,

Linking to your ebook is acceptable so long as its content is directly related to the information in the Hub. But I recommend viewing our FAQ guidelines on overly promotional content to be sure that you are not linking in a way that puts your Hub as risk of moderation for unrelated links or overly-promotional content.

Hi Connie120! If the Hub (1) provides unique information and (2) is about the book or about the book's subject, then a link is ok. The Hub should also meet our quality standards otherwise it may get unpublished for not passing the Quality Assessment Process (QAP). For an explanation of the QAP and how it works, please visit: http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/Featured-Hubs

Thanks for being proactive and checking with us first! smile

Tell you the truth, connie120. Even though I have never read the book, I think it would give a fresh approach, and if people enjoy it, they will spread the word. So please write it, I cant wait to read it.

Thank you all for the replies. I don't think the hub would be flagged as overly promotional, since I don't even plan on mentioning my ebook in the hub.
Tfox, it isn't an "interesting reading" type of ebook! It is about how to use a certain website, but then I noticed newbies often have a problem on that website, so I was going to write a hub about how to get the most from that website when you're just starting out.

Connie120, knowledge is interesting any time you allow your mind to grow. It becomes the verification of interesting, which is nothing more than an adjective of the noun interest.  Interest according to Webster, means : something that concerns, involves, draws the attention of, or arouses the curiosity of a person. By this definition, any thing, can become of curiosity to an individual.

Off topic, but I have to say it worries me that you're using your email address as your username.

It's always a really, really bad idea to publish your email address on any site anywhere.  There are automated scanners constantly trawling websites, looking for email addresses to add to their spam mailing lists.  We all get spam email, of course, but posting your email publicly means that you get a hundred times as much!

I understand that, I feel the same way. I just am not sure as to correct it.

Unfortunately you can't change your username, so you have two options. One is to email team @ hubpages.com and ask them if they would consider changing it for you, in the circumstances.  I have known it to happen (only once or twice in six years, but hey, what have you got to lose?).

If they're unable to do that, then the other option is to ask them to delete your account. Save your Hubs and republish them under a new name.

You can go ahead with your stuff and i think it will be a great approach towards new era but be sure content should pass quality standard. It should not look like overly promotional.
