Why is this Hub not featured?

I realize it is not exactly an excellent piece of writing, but it doesn't strike me as something that should be hidden either. What could be the problem?

Featuring is not just about the quality of the work it is also about the traffic that a hub receives - so unless people are searching for the subject of the hub it will eventually be idled due to lack of engagement.
Personally I have never heard of this guy and it was an interesting read (although you might like to reread your second paragraph.)
If "rivals of jesus" is not a largely trafficked term or "apollonius" then you may have to use the keyword tool to see what terms might be trafficked.. try changing your title to find readers., or promote your hub in places where it may generate readership.

Hi Haunty! I took a look at the Hub and it is Featured. In My Account > Statistics, the black "H" icon means that the Hub is Featured. For an explanation of the icons that display when a Hub is not Featured, check this FAQ entry: http://hubpages.com/faq/#featured-status

Let me know if you meant to ask about a different Hub!

Hey Marina! Thanks for replying. Yesterday, the Hub had the "half-moon" symbol and I posted this thread to find out what that really meant after reading a comment with vague explanation by Marisa in another thread. I tend to think it has to do with traffic as after 28 hits in a day, the Hub is indeed featured.

But wait a second, your FAQ entry says just that. Thanks, again. smile

Thanks for taking the time to read and post. It is slightly annoying that Hubs now get idled based on engagement. Indeed, this is not such a well-known guy, so I didn't expect many readers in the first place. So, I don't think the Hub should be judged based on traffic consistency. But I do apreciate your comment and advice.

It is annoying, isn't it?  Simone explained that HubPages decided to introduce it because a large proportion of low-trafficked Hubs are low-trafficked because they're cr@p.   So it was an easy way of getting rid of a lot of rubbish Hubs without having to pay a fortune to put them all through the QAP.  HubPages  recognises there is "collateral damage", i.e. perfectly good Hubs on obscure subjects, but it had to be done to ensure the health of the site.

She didn't put it in quite those words but that's it, in a nutshell.

Wow! That makes perfect sense. I know people are annoyed by folks that praise HubPages for everything, but from just my experience, the introduction of this "engagement" factor was, for the main, well-executed.

Simone and Derek made a great team, and were unusually frank in explaining what was going on.  This is a great example of the discussions we had on the forums a while back. That kind of openness seems to have disappeared with Simone and Derek, sadly.

You're talking about openness here, so I might as well just say what is bothering me. I haven't been around long enough to judge, but it seems to me that having a community manager is not important to HubPages any more. Simone is gone, along with other important people. Maddie is completely inactive. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate that Marina is responding to threads even as insignificant as this one and I'm really glad to see that she cares and is being helpful as circumstances would allow it, but is that really her job?

Ok, I'm sentimantal, because I loved HubPages the way it used to be and I took it for granted.

I was subbing in for Matt last week and had a little too much fun. To answer your question though: I wear many hats at HubPages but I really enjoy communicating with Hubbers in the forums.  From here on out, myself, Matt, Robin, and Christy will be hanging out in the forums, answering questions, and (hopefully) making people angry. big_smile

I wish I had been here last week to see you having too much fun. But having four baby-sitters in the forums will surely invite enough crybabies with whom to have said fun again and again.

I tried to think of a way for you to make me angry, but I couldn't find any. I'm really not that easily angered, and then again, some people would have an exceptionally hard time trying to make me angry. Good luck with everyone else, though. big_smile
