No.  I wish I was more confident.  Sometimes, I come across as snobbish because it is hard for me to just jump into a conversation with a stranger.

It's always the prettiest girls who feel that way... why, I wonder? You look as if you would have loads of self confidence and rightly so.

Thank you for saying that, but it is not always what's going on on the outside that affects our confidence.  I have been working on it since grade school.  I am even a darn good public speaker, it is just the "mingling" I am not good at.

Well, I can understand that. Mingling sucks. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. You're obviously very articulate so who cares about mingling. I hate it too.

I think in most mingling situations, there are a group of individuals all trying to be the outspoken one. On most occasions, the outspoken one tends to be the arrogant one.

Mingling is necessary on some occasions.  The type of work I do, or did until I retired to motherhood, required "working the room".  It never felt natural to me.  I felt like I was faking it.  My point was that sometimes I appear to be arrogant, or have been accused of being a snob because I have trouble making small talk with strangers... always have.

I like to seperate confidence with ego. I believe confidence is thinking you are right about something while leaving it open to debate. I believe ego is thinking you are right refusing debate.

That's probably my only real vice. Its the strong values I was brought up with. I was taught never to back down, never take any crap from anyone, and never under any circumstance feel inferior to anybody, whether by intellect or by material possession. It really kicked in deep. Sometimes, I take it a bit too far. Just sometimes.

I can relate. I refer to this as pride. I think pride must be swallowed at times.
