Keyword Tool Staying?

   I was a little bummed when I found out the Google Keyword Tool was going away this month.  I've been using the Keyword Planner, but I can't say I like it as much.  It's functional, I guess, sort of, and I figured I was being my usual doesn't-deal-with-change-so-well self, so I accepted I would just have to learn to deal with it.
   
   But today I clicked over the old Keyword Tool and it's still there.  Furthermore, the little message across the top saying it is going away is gone.
   
   Has anyone heard if G has changed its plans to ditch the beloved Keyword Tool?

      I don't like the new version as well, but with practice you can still use the keyword tool within it.  I had heard that the tool was not real reliable anyhow, however.

   I haven't heard anything but when I log into the tool it takes me to the new version so I doubt if they ditched the plan.  If I use the captcha it takes me to the old version.   I don't care for the new tool because it is too integrated with adwords and it seems much harder to weed out longtail phrases.

   If you sign up for an AdWords account, you can still use the tool.  AdWords is for publishers, so if you have your own websites you probably already have an account.  If not, it's free to signup for one. In fact, you can probably get $50 worth of ads for free if you use a coupon (found online) and if you are a new user.

      I have an account and I was signed in. Maybe that was why I could still use the old tool. I thought it was going away altogether.
      
      This is good.  I can use the Keyword Planner thing if I have to but I much prefer the Keyword Tool.

         I have a notice in my adwords account that the keyword tool will be removed in the next few months and to head over to the keyword planner, so sounds like it is being retired.

   i am not enamored of the new Adwords tool.
   
   It is designed for people who are buying Adwords -- Google ads -- and trying to get them in front of as many eyeballs as possible and/or their target audience, as cheaply as possible.
   
   The keywords in Adwords allow Google's algorithm to decide which pages get which ads. They're what determine whether you get stuck with "One weird trick to lose weight" or an online university program, for example.
   
   It's all about figuring out how and where to place your banner ads -- and which keywords make those ads effective.
   
   NONE of this has any relevance to what we need: a tool that helps us determine what people are searching for that's related to our topic, and how to help those readers find our pages.
   
   At this point, I am switching to my own keyword data. I can look back over ten years and see what people have searched for across my different webpages and websites. i haven't collected that data in one spot, and I think it's going to prove a heck of a lot more informative than what keywords Google thinks Cheap Hotels Dot Com should be bidding for to get its advertising in front of more eyeballs.
   
   i do hope the Hubpages keywords tool stays put. That will be one more batch of data in our arsenal. (Of course, I imagine it's hamstrung by "not provided", but that's a separate Google issue.)
