Does it cost anything to get a PayPal account?

   I've been looking for a job for a while and heard that it's possible to earn a little money on Hubpages through writing articles and blogs. I found that I have to have a PayPal account in order to receive any payments and was wondering is I have to pay anything out of pocket in order to open one.

      Payapal is 100% free to signup and use. You are charged a small fee to receive and withdraw money from your account, but it's a small percentage. Ultimately there is no out of pocket expense to have the account.All you need is a hotmail account to send/receive payments.
      You will be waiting a few days for paypal to deposit a small amount into your account so they can verify you own the account.
      All in all it's a easy process.

   Get a Premier account. The only charges are those by article submission sites who actually take whatever they charge you for sending payment via Pay Pal out of what they owe you. Pay Pal does not charge you anything if you have a Premier Account.

   Yes. I already had an account and charged for every transaction. Another writer told me about the Premier account.  I called their 800 number. If I remember correctly, the rep on phone set it up for me.

   Personal and premier are basically the same thing (same fees deducted from transactions) and there are no upfront/out of pocket fees for either.  Sign up for premier if you plan to use it for stuff like Hubpages which is commercial.

   It does not cost anything to create a PayPal account. Unless it has changed, HubPages requires you to have a PayPal account to receive your earnings.

   You don;t really have a choice.  Personal can't be used to make money, business is for businesses.  You get premier.

   "Personal can't be used to make money." Is this new? I've had a PayPal account for 7 or so years, but I do try to keep up with things when it comes to my money. Personal accounts can be used for receiving payments for goods (or work) as long as the sender is using their PayPal balance for the transaction. You need to have a Premier account to receive funds that originate from a bank account or a credit card. Now, in most cases, the money is funded in a way other than the "PayPal balance", so upgrading (which is free) is the best idea.

   A couple of things regarding PayPal. First, I find it to be very secure. Second, that is because I use it in a way that leads to more security.
   
   When signing up for PayPal, it is a good idea to not use an email address you have tied to social media or work sites. You are allowed to have up to 8 email addresses (I think? I don't have that many added) set up for receiving payment. You can find the section for adding more email addresses by going to My Account > Profile > Update email.
   
   Your Primary email address is the one used to log in. There are also security keys you can add for another layer of protection. You can find the section for setting one up (I use my cell phone) by heading to Profile > My Settings > Security Key.
   
   Main points: My PayPal login is different than my logins (and 'send my money to' field) for money-making sites. I use a security key. If you only have a Personal account, you will be prompted to upgrade (for free) to Premier (formerly 'Business') account.

    After signing up for PayPal, you have to verify it in order to transfer your paypal money to your bank. And to verify your PayPal, you need either a debit or credit card. You need to pay annual fees for those cards (in case you still don't have those). If you already have a credit card then all you have to do is link it to your paypal. No need to pay more.
