Is there a best and worst time of day to post a new hub?

Everyone wants to get their hubs noticed and read, and to get plenty of "thumbs ups" and appreciative comments, so it is worth exploring all the factors that help towards this end.

Having just had a couple of hubs that virtually nobody has spotted (but I reckon that people would enjoy them immensely if they did!), I wonder if one of these factors could be the time of day when you post your hubs?

My reasoning is that I often go straight to the "latest" hubs when I log on, and I assume that other people do the same. If there are 100 people logged on when your hub is published, there is a good chance that 10 of them might look at your hub while it is still on the first "latest" page. However, if there are only 10 people around, you may only get one "hit". Once the hub has disappeared into the ether, people will only find it by chance or because they are "fans".

So the question is, what is the time of day when there are more likely to be 100 hubbers around rather than 10? I would assume that this might be when America is awake and sitting at its PC or laptop. But when exactly is this? Morning? Afternoon? Evening?

Any thoughts on this, good people?

Oh, and by the way, those hubs of mine were on prostitution among penguins and funny things that happen in libraries. The two are totally unconnected!

If you go to the main Forum page and scroll all the way down, you can see how many people are online right now.

As far as best time, there are hubbers all over the world, so I'm not sure a specific time would help.  I am in the CST (US) and I notice a lot of people on in the morning and late at night (also, a lot of activity around 2:00 p.m. because of the hublove contest).

Thanks for that interesting tidbit-- I've been scrolling down on the main Forum page and looking for the last day or so --very interesting to see how many hubbers are online at different times of day and night.

Let me add, in my experience, hub traffic tanks on Friday afternoon.

Thank you, Peter, for that information. I had no idea that the number of hubbers online was available here.

Interesting.  I never think much about the time of day I publish, probably because I don't look at at the Latest Hubs page much.  As the community continues to grow, it will be pretty impossible to keep your hub on the Latest Hubs page for any length of time.  Even now there is a lot of junk being published, which is why I tend to look at Hot Hubs instead.

    Neither did I. Cool information.
Indexer, this is a smart and innovative way of considering getting traffic to Hubs.

With less people online that means fewer hubs being published, therefore it should stay in the "latest hubs" longer!

I publish once I've got all my stuff written up and done. There's no time like the present. The sooner it gets out there the sooner it'll get indexed by search engines.

Maggie Ruud and Darkside make interesting points, namely that surveying the "Latest Hubs" is probably not what most people do anyway. I might start a new topic, therefore, to ask a revised question!

I've only been hubbing for two weeks, but I have a theory about this, that it would depend on the subject matter and audience.  My audience appeals to moms or parents of young children - whom usually are too busy during the day to read and work here.  Therefore, I think my hubs will do best when I post them just before the "primetime" rush, I think moms like me get here after dinner and start working.  So my logic is if I can beat them an hour, my hub will show up at the time they are clicking for latest hubs..(how I'm going to do that when the kids are awake I'm still trying to figure out lol

So for example if you're a young clubbing kind of gal/guy or work evenings and your hubbing about fashion, drinks, clubs, etc. you might want to post early in the morning so that when your hubbers wake up at noon (remember those days?) there'll be new content in there for them to see.  And so on.

I'll get back here and let you know the results after I've been plugging a while longer.

Yes, I take your point. I also have to bear in mind that America is several hours behind the UK, and has (I think) four time zones. Working out whether I want to "hit" mums in New Jersey or retired people in California might tax even my organisational ability!
