I noticed the last few days that Amazon capsules with Kindle books are displaying the following error...

"Amazon is not providing us a price for this item. Therefore it can not be displayed."

...but when I go to Amazon's sales page it has the price listed just fine. So for some reason it's not passing along to the HP Amazon Capsules.

Is anyone else having this problem. It only happens with Kindle ebooks as far as I can tell.

I've had that happen with other products as well.  Clothing, for example, which is sometimes priced differently for different sizes, gives the same error message. Does your product have a print edition, too?

Yes it has both the print edition and Kindle.  The price on the paperback is showing up fine. Only the capsule with the Kindle version has the error. It showed up fine until recently.

Did those that had that error correct on their own, Writer Fox? Or do you still have the problem too.

I did just what Matthew is suggesting here, i.e., found one size that did show up with the price and used that one for the product number.  It is frustrating because you can't really check all your Hubs every day to see if the products are posting correctly.

Unfortunately, there are items for which the price is unavailable and it is not isolated to Kindle books.
Sometimes you may be able to find a different product code for the same item that does have pricing info, so it might help to search for the product name on Amazon to see if there are multiple listings.

There is further explanation here in the Learning Center.

      From that entry
A note about Amazon product pricing availability:

For Amazon product prices in HubPages' Amazon capsules, we use the Amazon API to determine the "LowestNewPrice" from the US Amazon site.

This information may not be not available for a small subset of products, even though a price is listed on the Amazon site. In these instances "price not available" shows in the Amazon product capsule. In this case the HubPages' Amazon capsule is working properly. You may be able to work around this Amazon issue if you can find a different product listing that has valid pricing information.

Strange that it was working until recently. There was no change to the Amazon Kindle listing. I would know, because it's my book. I guess I'll have to contact Amazon about this problem. If they need a contact at HP, should I give them your name Matt?

The little information I have about the issue is that Amazon's API is not supplying a valid price for these items.
If Amazon needs to contact us, team at hubpages dot com is the best way.  We can then direct it to the best person.

      Problem solved!

With the purchase of Squidoo, HP had changed the Amazon capsules to replicate the way Squidoo had done. An important change is the removal of pricing info.

This actually solves this long standing problem with certain items displaying an error message when Amazon does not supply pricing info in the API. Now it shows the "Buy Now" button instead of an error, so we're back in business.
