I want to know what a good website would be to get books printed from. I have a self published ebook, that I want to convert into a printed book and would appreciate knowing the names of some self publishing websites.
    Thanks for your help

I self published my first novel: 'Matters of the Hood,' as a printed book last April. I used Edwards Brothers to Print and www.selfpublish.com. I found going the printed route exciting and challenging all at the same time. Move a pallet of hard copies isn't easy, however, it was well worth it. Now my question to you: How well does your book do as a ebook?(sales wise)

I second the vote for CreateSpace, because it enables you to list your printed book on Amazon.  Amazon makes it difficult (if not impossible) to list books printed by other self-publishing houses.

It is expensive if you engage them to do all the preparation work for you, but you can do it yourself or find freelancers who will do the formatting for you, and that's much cheaper.

I would recommend LULU (lulu.com) as it's free to publish with them, you get free ISBN, and can distribute to amazon for free as well. You set your own book price and you decide how much you want to earn per book on Amazon and on Lulu. You get paid monthly (to paypal acct) when you've earned a minimum of $5. I've published 7 books with lulu and all made it to amazon. smile

I used Createspace for my first novel. It's free unless you want to use their extended services (editors, cover designers, etc). I've been pretty happy with them so far.
I've also heard good things about Lulu but I haven't worked with them personally.

Amazon has a program where you can self publish. It has been awhile since I checked on it, but, I do remember that it would cost about $500 and they print you book as it is ordered by a customer. I think it is well worth checking it out.

Here is the link to Amazon's "publish your print book" -- click on "CreateSpace" ("Join the world of published authors with CreateSpace's easy-to-use independent publishing tools. You'll find everything you need to create, publish and distribute your book for free.")

Amazon has CreateSpace and that's free I think.

CreateSpace - absolutely!  It's the third platform I've tried and it is by far the best.  I have two books there for print on demand, "Take This Man" and "My War."  Could not be more pleased.

If you just want to have some hard copies in hand, a local print shop will be the cheapest option.  If you want to sell them online Createspace will work for most people.  There are other options like Lulu.com

The big problem with Lulu is that their international shipping costs are exorbitant compared to Amazon. To even find out what the costs are you have to go through the entire ordering process. It's a very small company compared to Amazon.

International shipping costs are a problem.  What is really needed is a publisher who can print where the customer is, not where their head office is - and you wouldn't think that would be so hard, really, but apparently it is.  I've been meaning to investigate Lightning Source which is owned by Ingram, maybe they would have local printers. I'm curious about BookLocker.com too.

I have had a published book. I am now arranging to have it launched. I could refer you to my publishers.

Outside of Createspace, Lightning Source is the POD every service really uses.  Lulu is a front end that makes Lightning Source easier to use.

It depends on how wide of a distribution you're looking for.  Print-on-demand is one option, where it is all done and drop-shipped for you.

Vanity presses are another, but you usually have a pretty hefty up-front investment, and then are stuck doing all the promotion yourself.  There is usually also a minimum order, and those are shipped to you, creating a possible storage problem (not to mention money tied up until they are sold).

Short runs, as has been suggested, are best handled at a local print shop.

I did one, that I printed myself--using my own computer and printer--(desktop publishing, that's called). It was a small run of about 15 spiral-bound books of poetry made just for family members.  All the poems were about various family stories with which they would all have been familiar.

I'm actually in the process of creating an e-book, not a print book.
    Best wishes.

I am about to send my first book off for self-publishing on the Espresso Book Machine. They have one  at the American Book Center in Amsterdam, and you can send off your PDF files, and have as many printed as you like. I'm just having one done for now. Costs 25 euros for setup and print.
The Espresso Book Machine is all over the place these days!
