What causes some people to have an intensely negative and visceral reaction against the LGBT community?  What makes some people to demonize and ostracize the LGBT community in terms of equal and fair treatment?  What makes the LGBT community so threatening to so many people?  LGBT people are wonderful people and are deserving of the utmost in human dignity and respect.

People are naturally afraid of people who are not like them and tend to think that people who don't behave exactly like them are deviant. Since gay people tend to comprise about 1 in 10 people, 9 in 10 are going to have the inclination to be afraid or dismissive of them. Some will attempt to understand gay people while others will fall back on their fears no matter what the data suggests. When those fears are stoked in the media, things get very polarized.

It's the same cause that makes some people hate the disadvantaged in our society.
What makes some people have an intensely negative and visceral reaction against the disadvantaged?

That isn't the foremost emotion that I hear from those so willing to castigate the disadvantaged for being disadvantaged.

You are off topic.  The subject is discrimination and disrespect towards the LGBT community, not the so-called disadvantaged who are that way because of their inept lifestyles and life choices.  LGBT people are born that way and they should be loved and respected for their uniqueness.

There you go!  Guilty of what you complain of in others.
