I thoroughly enjoyed HP's latest blog post about a viral hub. Here's the first paragraph:

"Just a few days ago, Hubber Kelly Brown (Brownie83) took Facebook by storm with her viral Hub, 10 Things Nurses Don’t Want You to Know, breaking the HubPages record for the most viral Facebook Hub ever! Starting on December 12th, her Hub began to pick up steam, ultimately receiving  over 2 million views in the last 7 days. Though her Hub achieved most of its success through Facebook shares, she additionally received over 2,000 Pinterest views this week. From her week-long whirlwind of popularity, Kelly has earned over $5,000 and counting from just this one Hub! Here are her thoughts..:"

    The rest is at http://blog.hubpages.com/2013/12/viral- … u-to-know/

Kelly's is not the first hub to go viral on this site. There have been others. And there will be more. I also liked the timing. It was nice to hear about a fellow Hubber getting a $5000 Christmas present.

Viral hubs can be done; as well as consistently high-traffic hubs. I, for one, am looking forward to year 2014. I'm going to write me some money-makers this coming year.

    How about you?

      This is good.
I am happy for her and here.
I think we must celebrate. Life is good and being a writer is a good part of life.

Holy cow. How awesome. Congratulations Kelly, where ever you are.

I am inspired. I am going to write a hub called... "What people who should dust more, but don't, don't want you to know." Spoiler alert: (They don't dust enough.)

That hub was there for a year before the nuclear detonation occurred. One just never knows...

Did you know that Picasso never allowed anyone to dust  things in his studio? He believed that "Dust protects things".
I have adopted this philosophy (even though many people will say it's not true)  and most of my stuff seems well protected.

          Protected or actually preserved?

I did however buy a feather duster as my daughter lost two of mine several years ago. At least I'm on the right track.

I had been pondering on what makes a hub go viral before I saw Kelly's story. It has been quite a learning curve because her story flies in the face of all the advise I've reading. However, I learnt a few keywords about Viral Hubs:
      1) Aged
      2)Shareable
      3) Readable
      4) Click-able
      5) Interesting
      6) Authoritative
      Amongst other qualities.
Her story is inspiring. Congrats Brownie88!

Congratulations to Kelly and her success smile
I don't really want to pour cold water on Kelly's success and I hope it continues!
However I have an uneasy feeling that by Hubpages advertising Kelly's great work it has put her Hub in a vulnerable position and liable to be 'hijacked' 'spun' 'stolen' call it what you will,  by the creeps who 'steal' hubs smile
Please someone : Tell me I am wrong ?  I wont mind in the least smile

Hi, Yes I would say you are wrong..... I would think that earnings of that nature from a hub are unlikely to be ongoing. I don't know the dynamics of viral stuff and popularity but I would think it lasts a few days at most. Her work will continue to be shared and possibly at high levels of share/readsd. But anybody posting a duplicate or replica is probably unlikely to achieve the same success.

The internet is full of plagiarists, scrapers and who knows what else? And a lot of people out for a quick buck. They will analyse this piece and attempt to achieve similar results and may well also copy anything else she posts in the belief she is now an internet guru......

Kelly has managed to earn more than a comparable print journalist for a fairly short piece - I think? Or at least about the same for sure. She also has the knowledge to recreate different hubs of similar or better quality, bearing in mind she's been working as senior nurse or something for over a year now.

I would think she has attracted followers who will be interested to learn of her experience of motherhood as well as continue to follow her nursing views and opinions.

        My opinion only.....

Congratulations to Kelly. It must be a wonderful Christmas present for her family, with the new baby due so soon.

I haven't read her hub properly yet. I just skimmed it a week or so ago when the forum discussions on this began. But as the poster above says her article flies in the face of the advice we are given, for sure. The title is not search engine friendly.

I think this show just how massive the power of social media has become and probably proves that anybody posting quality content could have the same good fortune. Two million views sounds such a lot but must be comparably small against total Facebook users.

Creating an article that goes viral like this must be so empowering. I hope she has gained massive numbers of followers too and it does inspire her to continue creating hubs and articles when the baby is born and after.......

That's very cool.  I saw Kelly's article on my FB newsfeed, and I clicked in to read.  Congrats to her on a GREAT December!!  I'm thrilled for her.

It's great to hear success stories like this! I had not seen it on Facebook, but am thrilled that it took off for her! And, it seems at the perfect time for it, too! Congratulations, Kelly!

Her hub and many others have been plagiarized on the illmixtapes site:

    http://illmixtapes.com/crispyhiphop.php … ion-Scores

a mirrored copy that looks like it's an authentic hubpage.  Such a shame!
