Ebay earnings

I have noticed the last 3-4 months that I have no Ebay earnings.  This is unusual.  Usually I have  a nominal amount listed each month, even if there are no sales.  We still get paid on referrals from our hubs, right?  Any ideas?

eBay changed  the program a few months ago. You now earn only if a sale is made within 24 hours of the bid being placed.  Basically it is now much like Amazon.

This is one main reason why a lot of authors have begun to eliminate eBay from their hubs.

Thank you Luis.  I was not aware of this change.  I will begin eliminating Ebay capsules for sure, as now, I see little benefit.

Thank you as well. I've been searching for information on this topic for quite a while with no success. It would have been nice to get an official notification. It's disappointing that they changed the program, but I'm glad that I know now at least.

I didn't know this, thanks for the info.  I've used a number of  eBay links.  What's the point of it. :-(

I have never made an eBay sale in the four months that I've been on hp. However, I consistently make Amazon earnings. Yet, I've tried to use equal ads for both programs. Really makes me want to revise all my hubs and replace eBay totally with Amazon capsules.

You are lucky to have Amazon!  We can't be an Amazon Affiliate in the state of North Carolina, so there is no hope of extra revenue.

That really stinks. I didn't know that. Do you use other affiliate marketing sites then? I am using linkshare but I haven't posted one of their links in my hubs yet.

Probably not a bad idea.  The chances of earning commission with eBay are now lower than with Amazon.   Both have 24 hour cookies, but there's a big difference in how they work:

With Amazon, so long as the buyer puts a product in their cart within 24 hours, they can come back and complete their purchase days later and you'll still get the commission.

With eBay, the buyer must complete their purchase within 24 hours, OR place a bid within 24 hours and then win the item.  If the buyer "watches" an item and waits to make a bid later, you get nothing - even if they ultimately win the item.

You can see that it's harder to get a sale with eBay under those conditions.

If you use eBay affiliate software on your own blogs, you can set your searches to return "Buy It Now" products only, which makes it more likely you'll get people buying immediately.   I do that on my own blogs and I'm actually doing much better since the policy change for that reason.

By the way, if you're going to use full-size Amazon pictures, put your Amazon affiliate link in the "source" box, because some people will be tempted to click through on the larger image rather than the small ad.

Melissa, I am happy you mentioned that about the source. I thought you got credit even if they clicked on the image. I'll need to do some changes.

It seems like I shouldn't bother promoting with eBay and stick to Amazon, I'll have to do some edits to a current work in progress Hub I think.

I never expected to make money from casual blogging, but as long as it is possible I'm fine.
