I live in Minnesota, which is one of the states that Amazon has chosen to stop doing business with due to a state tax imposed upon Amazon, for Amazon affiliates in this state. For this reason, I can no longer monetize the Amazon module. I wanted to suggest the possibility of another affiliate program in place of, or as an additional option for those of us who can no longer use Amazon. Perhaps if HubPages could establish a relationship with Commission Junction to establish a similar program for us to use.
ClickBank links are not allowed, but many other affiliate programs are OK: ShareASale, Commission Junction, Zazzle, AllPosters, etc.
Thank you for your response Writer Fox.
Are you sure about this? I see you’ve got a lot more hubs and accolades than I do, so it may not be my place to question your knowledge on the topic, but to be on the safe side, it was my understanding that the only external links we were allowed to use were those going to our own personal external site. I always thought that affiliate links were not allowed.
Is there a resource you can point me to that would clarify this for me?
I'm sure there is an article somewhere but HubPages buries it deliberately - after all, if you use other affiliate links in your Hubs, they earn no money from them, so they're not keen to encourage it!
I can tell you, from experience, that HubPages allows affiliate links. If you search the forums, you'll find statements somewhere which say that HubPages allows links from "reputable affiliate networks". They don't publish a list, however it appears that most networks qualify. I've used ShareASale and Linkshare without difficulty. Others have had a problem with Commission Junction in the past, but apparently that was a mistake and CJ is now allowed.
Clickbank is not allowed, or any other affiliate link which leads to a landing page rather than a proper website.
If you're looking for an affiliate program for books, try the Book Depository. It used to have a good scheme - however it has also been bought by Amazon recently so I suppose it's possible they've imposed restrictions. Otherwise, how about Barnes & Noble.
Marisa,
Thank you for your very well written response. I will definitely look into the ideas that you mentioned.
Daffitt - I was going to send you a PM but it looks like you've disallowed email from other Hubbers. I was going to say, you may want to look at HubPages new Amazon scheme.
You may be able to use the Ebay program if Amazon if prohibited in your area.
We are considering no new programs and have no plans to implement any other affiliate programs.
Ok, Thank you Mathew. That's what I've been doing. I'll just have to keep it up then. I know I haven't gotten any results at all from eBay in the three years I've been using HubPages. But, I'll just keep my focus on writing good hubs and working with the AdSense ads.
Thanks.
You could also consider signing up for Skimlinks or Viglinks. You can use their links in your Hubs, though you'll be limited to two links per Hub (I'd suggest one link as the "source" link for a product photo, and one link in the text).

Does all money made on this site have to run through the hands of HubPages?I knew ClickBank wasn't allowed because people were making a lot of money outside of HubPages... and a lot of those links go to pages with opt in boxes for newsletters...But Commission Junction? These link people right...

Hi,I have other accounts here (this is my forum account). So far in the two days of Amazon earnings reports in the new HubPages-linked Amazon products, I only see products listed that I directly linked to. Usually I earn commission from products that were bought using my affiliate links...

I am unable to use the Amazon Affiliate Program now that I live in Colorado. However, I am a book lover and would love to use affiliate links to books I review or talk about. I am a Barnes & Noble Affiliate, and am wondering if I am allowed to use my affiliate links from there on my hubs. If...

Can we post affiliate links in our hubs? These CPMs are killing my income

Hello, my fellow hubbers!I hope all is well with you. This is Jharz from the Philippines, and I'm new here at HubPages. I just have a few questions (kindly see below) regarding posting Amazon affiliate links on my hubs.1. Am I allowed to post my own Amazon affiliate links on my hubs? If yes, how...

It seems strange the rule for affiliate links is the same for every hub. For example, I have a hub with over 2,200 words, plenty of links to other hubs, and after getting a warning going over it numerous times, I finally gave up, stopped wasting my time and deleted the single affiliate link I could...
