Custom Domain Registeration at blogger or Wordpress.com?

   I am planning to open a small website but i am a bit puzzled as to which option would be the best- should i go to blogger and opt for custom domain registeration or should i create the site using wordpress? Which one is the best?

      You can't earn money on Wordpress.com.
      You can earn money on Blogger and they have very few restrictions.
      Or you could spend the extra $5 a month to get a hosted Wordpress.org site.

         I would not suggest purchasing your domain with Blogger. You can purchase a domain name elsewhere and point it to your blogger blog.
         
         If you are planning on just using Adsense to make money Blogger is the blog for you. If you are creating an affiliate site then I would suggest a hosted website where you have total control over your website.
         
         Blogger closed my Affiliate blog without allowing me to backup my site, I lost everything. Once you start placing more than just a few Amazon items on the site they'll start messing with you.
         
         You don't need to learn HTML to create your own website these days. Websites are already created for you. Wordpress.org is one of the easiest to set up and all you have to do is install their free plugins to get the site you want.

            I didn't know Blogger didn't allow Amazon ads. I guess I'll close my account there. I'm happy you brought that up.

               Barbara, I did not say they that didn;t allow Amazon ads. What I said was "Blogger closed my Affiliate blog without allowing me to backup my site, I lost everything. Once you start placing more than just a few Amazon items on the site they'll start messing with you."
               
               Blogger is not too keen on affiliate links. An Affiliate blog will imply that your blog is geared toward selling stuff. Blogger prefers niche information rich blogs with only a few affiliate links.

         I agree with WryLilt, blogger will be the best start for beginners and if you are concerned about SEO stuff wordpress is good. I have my new blog on blogger and as far as what my experience say, blogger is very easy to use, user friendly (Easy to put widgets) You can download free templates if you don't like the design of the default template of blogger.

   Both domains are beneficial. Wordpress is easy for Google and other crawlers to digest. But, blogger is owned by Google so either way you're on a good start.
   
   Both of them are great, but really you should make a website using HTML scripting and uploading it to an online server.
   
   If you're unable to write full HTML code I have a hub on how to create a website for beginners. I am adding more hubs in that category soon so eventually one will be build a website with as many pages as they need and get it hosted.

   Get custom hosting and Wordpress CMS (wordpress.org) like I said before
   
   But if you're going to be using wordpress.com or blogger I'd say go with blogger.

   or you could just go straight to WordPress.org and avoid having both Blogger and WP tell you what you can and cannot do on your site. WordPress.org lets you do whatever you want

   I feel it is better you get your own hosting and domain. There are some functions that comes in the form of plugins with which you can manipulate and customize the site to suit your taste and what you intend to use it for

   Wordpress.com and Blogger.com are free to use. Wordpress.org is free but you have to pay for a host. It is said that Blogger is easier to use than Wordpress. Since Blogger is Google then you can link it with another Google acct. (Gmail, etc.) - as Cardisa said it also runs with AdSense.

   As mentioned, Wordpress and Blogger are both good services and free. Which is best is largely a matter of taste. I suggest opening an account with both with the blog not published and have a look around.

   Good question. I started with a free Wordpress blog, and created a few more. One for our self catering cottage, one for our local bookshop reception, one for our publishing house ( with our own domain name)  and one where I published the first two chapters on my first novel. Then I worked mainly on my main blog " The End of Times" and paid for my own domain name for this blog. That is the blog I work with the most. I don't know what the advantages are to have a Wordpress website, but there might be many that I don't know about.  I have a free Google website and found that very easy to manage.
