It is shocking to note that on Google search, the HubPages is displayed with a bad tag "This site has a bad reputation". It is sad and not true. Why they label our site as a bad one. I got this information, when I tried to find the position of some of my articles on Google search page. Even Blogger and other silly sites are Safe but the most popular and successful site such as HubPages is Bad. Why? What can we do to get it removed. (The safer sites are with a tick mark in green circle and bad ones read HP with a minus mark in yellow circle). Please comment on.
I believe any bad reputation tags would be because of the stuff that goes on in some of the forum threads. That is where we have to start cleaning up and we should all work together to put a stop to the bad attitudes, lack of respect, personal attacks, and rudeness that is prevalent in the forum threads.
I do agree that as of late we have lost our communal harmony and intimacy in forum postings. Some use abusive language, some are arrogant, some adopt the style of personal attacks and a few are very rude too. It all started recently. I had been here for the last two years but noticed this sort of negative plays on the part of hubbers only recently. I myself was humiliated on certain grounds and it was very hurting as well. But does it have any relevance with the question I raised today on the forum. I need a clear reply. I think the HP authority has to do some urgent works to avoid that bad tag.
I haven't been on the forums much lately, but if this is happening we all need to get in and try to help clean things up with flags and deletions whenever possible.
Sunnilkunnoth, do you know what program created the yellow flags? A few months ago an antivirus program called Avast was reportedly doing that. http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/118149. I'm sorry I am not a technical person and can't help you much.
alison monroe, thank you for your frank reply.
So can you answer Alison's question? - Do you know what program is creating the yellow flags? It's not Google that's doing it. Do you use Avast anti-virus? That's what was responsible for it last time the topic came up.
Alison's link doesn't work because she put a full stop after it. Here it is.

That is terrible news, sunilkunnoth. We know that the majority of articles at HP are well-written and informative. I wrote a hub about how unique the site and the writers are and what a good learning environment we have with each other. Maybe we should all write more about the plus side of HP and get the word out.
Fully agree with you jashares. Thanks for your good reply.
Google is a commercial company, so they would only see things in terms of money. So any bad tags would be sign they are not making money from hubpages. The sites they are promoting, would be where they are making money. I really doubt if Google and its advertisers would make much money from well-written and well informed articles.
After reading this very alarming forum topic I needed to find out for myself. I just typed into google: hubpages Nadine May and many of my articles addresses came up in the first 3 pages, including my blogs and website where I promote all the titles of my articles with their links. I saw no yellow flag at all! I'm using Firefox and Windows 7
In the past, years ago I recall now that I used to see the ratings of webpages, but that must have been a setting I do not have now anymore.
That was more about if the website or page was save to open, not about the page itself. A green tick meant save and red meant suspicious. I never seen a yellow flag.
You may be right, you haven't found it there. But my searching brings that bad result and that's why I posted it here. I too wish to get result as what you got. Congrats on your fine visibility on the cyber world. Thanks for your comments.
My old virus program would do this. It isn't Google doing it, but your virus program.
Ok, here is why it happens. Those who have this are likely using Avast antivirus, which puts a "rating" by sites (based on user votes). in search results. I run Avast - it's a great antivirus program. Anytime I run a google search and an HP article is in the results, the little yellow warning "this site has a bad reputation" appears. It doesn't matter whose hub it is etc. It is a sitewide reputation thing.
The reason it is voted that way is that a significant number of people have seen this site as "spammy" more than high quality. It has nothing to do with the forums most likely as the forums are not what pulls up in search results.
People may vote a site as "low quality" if they think it doesn't offer good info, or if it seems overly commercial and full of ads etc. When a site gets enough votes either positive or negative - then they display those warnings on the search results.
Overall, not sure if it is having a huge impact. It is unfortunate though.
You have answered it well. Thank you. My humble question is what can we or for that matter the HP authority do to get out of this bad situation. Let's hope it will disappear soon.
I researched and reviewed it in many different ways and it had a very good reputation. I even found it on BBB.
I believe that the problem is not Avast (which I use) and HP but certain links entered into HP. I have checked HP with my Avast and it says 'No threat found'. There was a forum some time ago which mentioned "links in search results has a yellow marker".
Other answers seem to discount the forum postings, but I still think it is a good idea to report anything that bring the site down.

Forgive me if this has already been discussed but I have been away for a while. I just searched for one of my hubs using Google chrome and it came up with a yellow warning button next to it saying "this site has a bad reputation". I searched for many of my other hubs and got...

Avast Security software and Google Chrome are conducting some sort of war...and it is adversely affecting searchers ability to reach our hubs. Anyone using the Chrome browser (not just us hubbers) who has the Avast software on his machine will (when searching for a hub) have the link to that...

Today we're changing the internal search engine on HubPages to run Google Custom Search. We know that search on HubPages didn't always work as intended, and we expect Google to ultimately provide more relevant results for both Hubbers and visitors using the site. The new search feature should not...

I did a little analysis of my articles in an effort to see why mine and the articles of others have dropped so low in reads. One thing I noticed is the existence of "sponsored ads" at the top of the search result page. These ads are place there by Google in response to the data they have...
