I have published a featured hub based around a product available on Amazon. It's a large outdoor play set. I guess it's an experiment to see how this kind of page performs. Typically, my hubs get indexed and show up well (page one or two) in search results across a range of keywords within about 24 hrs. This one was crawled 15 hours ago and still hasn't been indexed. I'm just wondering is it harder to get a product-based hub indexed? Or maybe I just fouled up on my keyword research this time? Or...? I know that there are some of you guys who do well with Amazon and I'd be really interested to hear your experiences (and any tips!)  if anyone feels like sharing! Thanks so much. smile

      Couple comments:

      1) The title and content of the Hub don't match. Your article is more about the benefits of playing outside than it is this product, so I think your abandonment rate will be high thus your ranking will tank.

      2) Eric is right, individual product reviews are hard to rank. You are better off and more likely to make sales on topics parents are searching for (and your more likely to rank higher on those as retailers aren't publishing topics, they're publishing products, mostly)

For example, some good article titles and search topics might be:

      - Top 3 Outdoor Playsets for Children
      - Why Outdoor Play Is So Important To Child Development?

You'd have to rework your content a little, but I think you would do better with something like this.

Are you sure it isn't indexed, or maybe it just isn't ranking for the keywords you expected?  Product Hubs face a lot of competition from big e-commerce sites. In most cases you really need to choose your keywords carefully.

But, if it really isn't indexed, submitting it through Webmaster Tools ought to solve the problem.

If you want a tip re:Amazon  Hubs, I'd move your Amazon capsule way, way higher up than you presently have it. It's like a tiny little afterthought at the bottom of the Hub.

Half the battle with Amazon sales (aside from getting traffic) is getting people to click through.  Give them that opportunity early in the Hub.  You're offering a huge product that costs thousands of dollars, from a site that requires them to ship it.  You might sell a few, but most of your sales will be parents who click over to check out the playset and then realize they need something else.

Also, I'd think about moving the video down further, and not allowing it to auto play.

Just my 2 cents.  Good luck!

Hi Eric - and thank you so much for that input.

I can certainly move the link higher up some place. I was beginning to wonder if I had made the right decision making this a Video Hub (hence the top position and autoplay) and may well un-publish it and re-publish in a different format.

Looking at it again, in some ways this hub may not be sure if it is an information hub about health and outdoor play or a product review/sales pitch. Kinda a bit of both.

      Food for thought. Thanks again.

Still open to other input and perspectives from anyone else, too!

PS: Eric, over 100,000 views in a year is quite an achievement. I'm impressed. smile

Sorry, I didn't realize you'd have to republish to move the video.  I don't make video Hubs, so maybe someone else can comment on how they do re: Amazon sales.

Truthfully, this account is actually almost 2 years old, but since I only semi-pay attention to it most of the time I'm not unhappy with its progress. Thanks. smile

Most internet gurus advise against auto-play.   So many people are browsing the internet at work, and if a movie starts auto-playing, they'll click away from the site and won't go back!

Youtube gets away with it because everyone knows, if they open Youtube, that's what's going to happen - so they're prepared for it.  Advice is that on other sites, most people find it annoying and want the choice.

We had a couple of Hubbers here who did a lot of work with video Hubs and came to the conclusion they were a waste of time - the same video on Youtube did far, far better.

          Thanks Marissa.

Yes, the way it has gone for me is that I think I will unpublish the hub and rework it using the basic template.
