Again, the religious forums are becoming even more vitriolic in nature.  We are intelligent, thinking adults at HubPages.  Each person has a right to his/her opinion although it may be different from another person.  Why all this argument and dissension.    Let others express themselves freely without recrimination and/or attack.   The religious forums, as all forums, should be arenas where people can freely express their thoughts.  Let's discuss this calmly!

I honestly don't know why people spend so much time on the religious forum.  There are people who spend several hours a day there!  I don't understand why they don't just write some Hubs expressing their opinions and carry on the arguments/conversations in the comments sections.  At least then they would be earning some money for all the time involved.  On the Forums, only HP makes money if you spend time there.

You make a great point.  You expressed what I get on myself about actually, and am working on getting back to that.

The forums are a rough place for many reasons, and often not a lot is accomplished.  I usually end up regretting having spent the time, when so much of what the OP said is the general rule.  My biggest thing is helping to clear up misconceptions about what I believe in general. While everyone has their own beliefs about life, they often have a lot of grossly misinformed beliefs about OTHER'S beliefs.  There are a ton of straw man arguments for what I believe, and so I try to help because they are rejecting all kinds of things for reasons that turn out to not even be the case.  (Regarding views I hold.)

You are very right though about why not just make hubs about it, lol.  That is too true and echoing what my own thoughts are now going back a good while. I get drawn in, but have had to set some rules that make it a better experience when I do go in there.

I don't see anyone not able to freely express their thoughts...I see people complaining about others freely expressing their thoughts, but people complain about lots of things. No one has came to take anyone's computer away yet. On that note, I haven't seen anyone chain anyone else to a computer and make them come to the forums with a gun to their head either.

If you don't want dissenting opinions, then don't invite them by giving your own. That's just how forums work--or hell, that's just how writing in general works.

I understand what you are saying and I agree with you.however, I don't view those kinds of forums but I still believe what you are saying is true. Let people express themselves and move on.

I also loved how you used the term Vitriolic. You know that's an alchemical acronym, don't you? It means something totally different from they way you used it.

      vit·ri·ol·ic

Janesix, how did she misuse this?

Vitriol: visita interiora terrae rectificando invenies occultum lapidem_ visit the interior of the Earth to find the hidden stone
It's alchemical, an acronym. It means find the goodness inside yourself, or enlightenment, or the Philospher's Stone.

So the common definition I cited, and have always used, is not valid?

          1. janesix profile image60

I suppose it's valid, because it's the common usage.

It stems from Calcination, the chaotic phase of alchemy. The Prima Materia. Going inside yourself stirs up all kinds of chaos and emotions, etc.

Janesix, I was unaware of the definition you gave, and do find it interesting.  Thank you for that.  GMWilliams did not, however, misuse the word.  wink  Looks like we all agree.

Hmmmm.  Perhaps you have some perspective to share regarding alchemy in relation to another forum thread I just started... http://hubpages.com/forum/post/2585499
