I am trying to figure out which one is smarter. I observe these animals daily on the bay.

Um...have you been observing them long enough to know that a turtle isn't a bird?

I've heard of chicken wings and even buffalo wings, but turtle wings?  Are they part of the shell or flippers?

I'm thinking the flippers might be meatier.  smile

Yes, but if shell they would be more rigid, more like a plane.  Could the flying turtles be using jet propulsion?  Maybe like a squid or octopus?

I can see them now, giant sea turtles, "porpoising" through the air in an upside down motion and dipping into the sea for more water for the jet every 100' or so.

Haha, yes, sorry for the typo. I meant a turtledove.

Are you talking about a turtledove?
Pelicans and Turtledoves are very different in size, diet, habit and in other ways, so it may depend on how you measure intelligence,

If they are able to survive with the skills Nature gave them, they are both smart in their own ways. It would hurt their feelings if they knew you were comparing them. shhh… (And a turtle would feel a little insulted to be called a bird.)
