How do you spend your time? Do you watch too much tv?

The Effects of Tuning into Television

There are twenty-four hours in a say.  You spend eight at work and perhaps a total of 2 hours commuting back and forth from work.  What are you doing with the rest of your time?
    School?
    Researching and pursing career choices?
    Improving your marketable skills?
    Perhaps tuning into current events?

Or are you not accomplishing tasks, dreams, and goals because you have become a sitting vegetable. You will be amazed how much you can accomplish if you choose not to turn on the television until after 8pm or 9pm.  You will also be amazed how the shows you watch allow energy to impact and enter your life.  Have you ever monitored how you feel after watching drama filled reality tv shows?  Have you ever monitored how you feel after watching comedy shows?

Be aware of how you spend your time, your focus on your goals, and how you feel at the end of the day.  Are you maximizing your time?  Just a thought.

I watch TV about an hour a day and that is it. Too much time is wasted reading at Facebook, emails etc though.

Actually, last October, my husband and I put our away in our storage unit. I had become addicted to television and had become so lethargic and depressed (because I wasn't meeting any of my goals or dreams), that we knew we needed to try something different. Now, every month, we ask each other if we are ready for the TV to come back out and we both agree to keep it where it is. It is completely liberating to not watch TV (for me anyway). It was really hard at first, but now my day is so full of other activities, I have no idea how I had time to watch so much television.

Awesome.  I'm sure you and your husband are much happier, experience less stress, exercise your mind and are accomplishing your goals.

I cancelled my satellite TV service about a year ago- I got tired of paying $120 per month.  I thought I would miss TV a lot, and I thought my wife and kids would be bored and angry with me for turning TV service off.

It turns out that we hardly miss it at all.  There are plenty of ways to waste time besides TV!  Actually, I think we waste a lot less time without TV.

I have not watched tv for over a year now. I write, work, and do some farming on the side. I am only interested with the news and keep  track of what's happening online.

I haven't had cable in over a year. The internet is it for me.

And even though it's been over a year, I still remember how I would flip through all the channels and find absolutely nothing that was worth watching 90% of the time.

I don't have cable either. I do have Netflix that I watch for probably a half hour or so at night. I definitely waste more time on the Internet (cracked, tumblr, facebook, etc.)

I usually watch tv about 2 hours a night. It is my downtime. We just have amazon prime for watching tv shows.

I never watch TV. However, I almost always have Netflix going in the background...

I watch an enormous amount of TV. I always have and I probably always will.  I am also in exactly the career I wanted, with my PhD hanging on the wall behind me, and a very happy life.  This is as close to maximum as I care to get, one also  has to have some hobbies, vices, whatever. No point achieving yourself into an early grave.

As a freelance, I work far more than eight hours a day! On the other hand, I also take days off when I feel like, regardless of whether they are weekdays or weekends.

When I am not earning my living as a translator I do the following:
    - play the harp and fiddle, alone or with other people
    - go to folk music events
    - go to other cultural events
    - attend meetings of groups to which I belong (in some cases also prepare the minutes for the meetings)
    - learn Welsh and attend courses in Welsh
    - work on my own web sites
    - go running, swimming and lift weights
    - spend weekends away camping or in hotels
    - read books
    - interact with people I know on Facebook, deal with emails and sneak in the occasional game.

I have no time for television, even though it would be useful for my language learning to watch the occasional programme in Welsh. I have a TV in the house but have not switched in on for several years now.

Um, yes?  I don't go into many houses without at least one TV.

The only modern purpose of a TV is to act as a glorified monitor (with built-in speakers) for your Blu-Ray/DVD player and non-PC video game systems.

Tell that to the cable companies.  The viewership figures still seem pretty healthy for me.

We dropped cable about two years ago but I still know a lot of people who have it.
