I'm on a quest to put up a much improved avatar. I'm not very good at photo editing so I've tried my hardest on this one.

What do u think - Yay or Nay?

    david

You have a nice face David I would go for a direct face shot.

What's with the cat?  I concur with earnesthub, a direct face shot if your going for the personal picture.

I like the cat though - I'll try to get a nicer shot w/her. I wish i was better at photography and photo editing! Too lazy to learn it!

I like the cat, too.  My own avatar (such as it is) was taken one-handed (by me, no shutter delay or anything).  But one that I took while holding one of our kitties (it's on one of the Hubs) didn't come out all that well--she wanted to watch me, not the camera.  Which is of course a much appreciated compliment, but it does make the "perfect photo" a challenge and a half.  Good luck!

Hi Ghost32 - Thanks for that! I find that when trying to take a pic with a kitty you have about a 15-second window to get the right shot then the feline friend moves onto bigger and better (when i took that shot she had been in the middle of devouring a poor fish!)

This one is better.  I'm a sucker for cats, though.  I'll have to check out your hubs, but am wondering if you write about pets???  The jury's out for me whether the cat works or not.

Hi WordScribe41! I'm a BIG time procrastinator. When I'm not busy doing stuff online I'm outside w/the cat. She's kind of old so isn't too playful but is very kind and has the soul of an angel. Thought I'd just share that...Thanks for ur comment :-)

AWWW, you just won my heart.  I'm a ridiculous cat lover (have 3 now) and I spoil them to death.  2 of my 3 are old kitties:  one's 14 and the other's 17 (in chronic renal failure sad  Might have swayed me to say:  keep the cat.

Thanks wordscribe41 - I love cats too. The other days i was walking by an outdoor restaurant. They had 2 cats, mom & dad and 8 kittens of all different colors (black + white, calico & tiger colors). The lady asked me "Khun ao mai?" - You want in Thai language - then held up 2 tiny kittens meowing with their high-pitched voices. I said "phom mi leo" (I have already) - my heart melted - wanted to take them home! But, Ms. Princess can be very, very nasty with newcomers...

Alright, I like the cat you have in this photo, but to my defense, the first one I saw was a picture of a cat with you in the background.  This photo is much better as it is of you with a cat.

Hi Wesley - yeah, that was the idea. the cat was such a good sport for taking the pic too! extremely mellow - cool cat!

earnest - agreed! it's hard to get it 100% right though. i'll keep trying...i really do think having a good avatar is extremely important for success in online marketing.

Do you really think so?  I have my doubts, I think content is what really matters, as in, people may be attracted to a cute avatar but if the content isn't there they will eventually go away.  Just my two cents.

Elena - Agreed 100%. Content and Traffic are the two biggest key elements to success on here. Just the avatar is an other important ingredient - in my opinion.

Well to be honest, had liked your previous one better. This one i think the cat stole the show lol. I had written a hub on importance of profile pictures just got reminded of that while reading this. This profile pic is the only connection i have of you it is what that the mind seems to remember i always associate badcompany with a pirate in hubpages context.

My rating would be 2 stars in compared to your previous avatar.

Gets a Yay from me as I like a personal picture like this rather than one that doesn't let you really see the hubber!

Blondpoet & Bard of Ely - Thanks! I will try to get my photoshop geek friend to teach me how to do something with the background. i think the pic is ok but the background (area behind where live where the cat stays) is ugly!!!

It's ok, but I thought your "you with the water in the background" was better - straight and to the point as far pictures of people go.
