It's NOT about if God exists - it's about what we are doing to rescue the Planet

Despite the riches of Japan, South Korea, Germany, UAE, China and others - we still live in a planet which is dominated by unfair economical distribution.

Despite the successes and boasting in science and technology, despite having those resourceful and technologically affluent companies such as Samsung, Honda, Mitsubishi, Intel, Boeing, Microsoft etc - we couldn't invent a way to minimize the amount of the household waste we dump into the environment. We still discharge our (untreated) drain waters into rivers, lagoons and into the ocean.

We still couldn't manage to live off the grid. We still depend on coal and to the government - to supply us electricity.

We live in cultures where we consider everyone by their monetary worth. We still evaluate people by the color of their shirt - or by the magazine they subscribe to - or by how much they spend on partying and nightclubs.

We still send our soldiers in fighter jets to bomb unnamed cities and villages under the mere command of our politicians as they sway their fingers from television screens.

We still kill animals for their skins, bones, or their teeth. We still kill them just for our fun. We still enslave them to amuse us in circuses or aquariums or amusement parks.

We still educate young children in streamlined classrooms and suppress their creativity, spirituality, and aspirations.

If you still consider that what is of utmost importance to us is to prove God's existence - then you are mistaken. God can take care of Itself. But God needs us to help others.

Fair enough, so where is the but?

There it is. So you think God can take care of itself, but you think he needs us to help others? Because he is unable?

Sorry, God doesn't need our help, humanity needs our help.

You got the point I wanted to convey.

"Sorry, God doesn't need our help, humanity needs our help."

You are correct. And perhaps we can take it either way.

"Fair enough, so where is the but?"   It's behind us.  It's what we show of our selves when we walk away from the difficult responsibilities.

I think God wants us to be good stewards of what we have been given.  I think this includes the earth.  I know I care about it, and wish everyone would more.  It is our home, and that of our children.  I think it makes great sense on many counts to take care of it.

It's the only home that we have. Very well said, oceansnsunsets.

You religionists have been in control of our world for just about as long as it took to get us here, along with all the problems you refer above. If it weren't for your beliefs in myths and superstitions and your rejection of facts, evidence, reason, rationale, logic, morals, etc., we probably wouldn't be in this mess.

Thank you for your valuable (?) and reasonable (??) reply to the Opening Post. Besides, you have earned a few reports.

        Have a good day, sir.

So, hitting the Report button because others don't agree with you is the solution? Have you actually tried to respond to what others say instead?

You are giving us some good explanation for the behaviors(s) that earned you those reports.

Ah, so you actually admit to reporting people because they don't agree with you?

Again, have you actually ever tried to respond to others, instead?

You're admitting a lot with these responses.

God is important because what people believe about Him affects how they treat the planet.  It is why 100 years ago most learned people thought extinction was impossible because God would not let it happen--and thus no need to stop blasting passenger pigeons out of the sky in the hundreds just for fun. And it is why today many fundamentalist Americans think catastrophe anthropogenic climate change is impossible because the world will end as described in Revelations and no other way.

Quite true. Maybe the Muslims are another exuberant example of that attitude. But no one is actually beyond that. Not even atheists.

Perhaps we all have faiths that impact the planet negatively, some way or another.

And as such people working for social and environmental causes do in fact need to engage with religiosity and with "God". Even those of us that do not believe in Him. He exists as a belief that impacts the outcomes of our efforts.

I agree, Prodio. We need to understand ourselves in the big picture of God's world… Nature. He invented it. We need to discover the laws of nature and work with it. Its as simple as that. Why or how anyone could disagree with this premise, is beyond me.
I also agree with your statement:
"We still educate young children in streamlined classrooms and suppress their creativity, spirituality, and aspirations."
We need to engage them in the real world…. bugs, plants, dirt, animal life, physics, math and science taught together, art and science together, history and art, history and science. More research and investigation by students should be encouraged with less emphasis on grades. True learning via intrinsic interest/motivation should be inspired. Teachers should be given more leeway toward these ends. We need to trust our teachers. Parents know when their children are happy and engaged in learning in their classrooms / school environments.
A real overhaul in education is long over due!
    TWISI.

It's called science, which does indeed attempt to discover the laws of nature, which incidentally does not show any gods having anything to do with it.

    Beautifully said, Prodio.

God wants us to love each other as ourselves. If a friend needs something and we have it, then we need to give it to them. But we need to be careful about the way we give it to them. Attitude, here, is everything.

If we give it to them grudgingly, then we are not Love. If we give it to them, congratulating ourselves that we are good and worthy of admiration because we are helping a neighbor, then we are not Love. Both of these attitudes feed Ego -- the antithesis of God and Love.

I have spent my life on a spiritual quest -- from Southern Baptist denomination to Scientology, Buddhism, Judaism and back to Christianity (non-denominational). But now, I'm studying a non-religious, spiritual science called Kabbalah. These are the guys who wrote the Bible in code. In 1995, they made the code and their teachings available to the general public.

Their aim is to restore Love (the altruistic kind that comes from God). Once more of us receive not for the benefit of self, but for the benefit of others -- correcting our selfishness into altruism -- then the world will automatically be better. People find it easier to think of cleaner, more ethical ideas, because there is an environment of spirit and Love.

Right now, we have a juggernaut of dichotomous splits cutting through society, dividing us into opposing camps of heightened Ego. This momentum will be overcome by the growing spiritual momentum. The faster it does, the less suffering there will be. But the suffering serves a purpose -- to build a need within us to hunger for something more than the physical.

Those of us who are already hungering for the spiritual need to take up the challenge and run the gauntlet for the love of all. This will be the tikkun olam we need -- the great "healing of the world."

My first great introduction started with a short film:

Is there any way to expand a 'blocked' human awareness?

And thank you for your beautiful reply. Stay in touch. We have much in common.

Yes, open the awareness to the Infinite Possibilities, and stop limiting any "god" to human desires.

We are finite, not infinite.   Any "god" that really exists cannot be infinite, because to exist is by definition, finite.

It is the human mind that requires one to "believe" in a mind-designed God.  This immediately brings with it a "blocked" human awareness.   IMHO
