      Hi Paul and welcome.
Glad to see someone else from Ireland on here. For your first hub, copy and paste it into Microsoft word to help stream line any problems. Word is a quick and easy way to correct even the slightest issues.
Hubpages can be a wonderful journey that will help you not only express yourself, but optimize your writing potential.

      Have a good day.

      Hi HighKing,
How long it takes to publish your first hub?
It can take any time within the first 24 hours when you submitted or pressed the "Publish Now" button.
Within this period, the editors of HubPages take a critical word by word, phase by phase, sentence by sentence, including grammatical accuracy, etc look at your hub.
Is your hub or article in line with HubPages writing Policy?
Study HubPages writing Policy to guide you well. This is very serious.
Did you include links in your hub? HubPages will take a vital look at that too. Should a link be broken or is unavailable for your readers to connect to a site you directed, you have to resolve it.
What do you write about? Is it how to solve a problem or do some simple task?
Did you give a simple step by step instructions for example, to your readers to arrive at the goal?
All this are few of some of the many issues beginners will come across in writing their first, second, third, etc hubs.
HubPages even ask you to do some research work on your story. Did you compile with this?
So, take courage. Review and revise your hub again and it will be publish when properly fine tone in line with HubPages writing guidance. I wish you the best.
      Regards,
      Miebakagh52.

You should give capitalizing the word 'I' a try.

I am a newbie too.  You may want to have someone proofread for you.  That way you can edit it.  I had errors in mine.  When you write something often you don't see your own errors.  Hope this helps.  Best of luck to you.

I do not know if you do, but you may want to read something to assist you in proofreading it yourself:

Copy your post onto a Word Doc and then typos will show up.  Don't give up find a friend or someone to proof a printed copy.  Also study all the info on Hub Pages for new users.  Push yourself to get through this.
