Do Male Authors Still Dominate The Book Industry?

   After all this time some women feel that male authors still receive more attention than female authors.
   According to Bustle online magazine, J,K. Rowling using a male pseudonym  could show sexism in the publishing industry.
   Rowling having to use a male name to draw in young male readers for 'Harry Potter.' And using another male pen name to create her crime novel. Is the book industry a man's world?

      No, males in my opinion does not dominate the writing arena.  After writing and publishing 5 books, I am convinced that persistence in marketing your work and keeping them lifted up in prayer to the Lord is premium.
      
      Why the swan sings was my first work followed by Divine Healing + Divine Health = A Divine Life, Why the Swan Echoes, The Old Woman and the River, Angel' can be found  Story everywhere because of my persistence.
      
      it is a career for me and after retiring from the health care industry it has become my full time work for the Lord and myself.

   I think gender bias varies throughout the industry. Literary still leans towards males.  But in some other genres it goes the other way.

   Hi psycheskinner! Thank you for your feedback! Are you saying that women dominate certain genres? When I think about it could be a little weird if  men wrote about a coming of age story for young girls. However anything is possible.

      Well, romance and saga certainly, and I think probably fantasy.  But also in general the proportion of agents and editors who are female is becoming a majority across much of the industry.  Technically Sparks does not write genre romance (his books are not on the romance shelves), but mainstream/love story--because the stories do not end happily.

   I don't necessarily think that the book industry is a man's world anymore.  I agree with you regarding men writing coming of age stories about young women, it would seem a bit odd!  Regarding J.K. Rowling, particularly Harry Potter, I know several men who love Harry Potter, knowing full well that she is a woman.  In fact, I think I know more men than women who love Harry Potter.  Or take Danielle Steele for example.  She has been writing forever and according to Forbes is the 8th Best Selling Author of All Time.  I know her audience is more than likely women, but that's not what matters, what matters is the fact that she has sold over 800 million copies.  Even a lot of male authors can't boast that feat!

      You make some good points Kristin Thanks for your feedback. I see more romance novels turning into movies written by women. Not a lot of thrillers such as those written by Dan Brown. However the proof does remain that female authors such as Daniel Steel, have done well in this industry. I don't think many men could get away with writing a Daniel Steel, type novel. However Nicholas Sparks, author of "The Notebook" has a touching style of his own I must say!

   This is true as well!  I definitely see a lot more female authors turning their novels into a franchise than men.  My dream is to be a successful novelist someday, so that may be why I'm a little bit passionate about women rocking it in the industry!
