HubPages Earning Program Set-up

   Hi. I'm new to HubPages and recently published my first hub. I've opted for the HubPages Earnings Program but noticed that the sign-up process is still incomplete. Apparently, I'm also supposed to associate a Google Adsense account. I don't have one and was of the impression that the ads would be via the HubPages adsense account and that I would get a share of the revenue earned from the impressions. I guess I'm confused about what I need to do to get set-up.

      You need to be approved for Adsense before you can be able to earn through Hubpages Earning Program; and to be approved for Adsense, you still have a long way to go - you need to publish MORE hubs like 10+. At the moment, you can only earn through Amazon external affiliate code. http://hubpages.com/help-answer/affilia … p-adsense/

      You need an AdSense account because earnings come from a revenue plan which incorporates both ads served via AdSense and the in-house ad program.  You do not share an AdSense account with HubPages, you share impression time on your Hubs.  60% of the impression time the ads on your Hubs will carry your affiliate ID and 40% of the time the ID will belong to HubPages.

   For the HP ad program you need an Adsense account. Until you have one you won't be able to join in.

   Thanks for the reply...in about a week or so I will be having about 150 lenses coming over to HP. Do you think that will help my chances of being approved?

      I knew you seemed familiar, I was wondering where I'd seen you before. It was the squidoo forums. Welcome Yeah you should be approved for sure if you weren't rejected any time earlier.

   Yes! If most of your lenses pass the Hubpages Quality Assessment and they get published then Google will most probably approve your Adsense account. It's a game of content!

   Well....unaware of the criteria...I did apply for adsense on a blog I wrote a couple of years ago but was denied because of insufficient content. I hope that will not affect my chances. Do you think that it will?

      I had been denied for insufficient content before, but was just recently approved for an adsense account.  You should be fine.

      Not, the amount of rejections does not affect your chances - you can make applications any time you feel your content is sufficient.

   For some reason everyone says it's hard to get an Adsense account but I don't think they're too bad. I had a mediocre YouTube account years ago that got approved for adsense and I didn't exactly have great content then. Has it really changed that much? Did I luck out already having one? =P

   We usually advise Hubbers to wait until they've been here at least a month and  have at least 20 good quality Hubs before applying for Adsense.  If they do that, they're usually successful. 
   
   Applying too early, or with too few Hubs, tends to end in failure.
   
   I'll be interested to see what happens to Squids, who will have a nice big instant portfolio but have only been here a few days.  Although Adsense doesn't say so, past experience suggests they have a time requirement as well as a number of Hubs requirement - so we'll see.
   
   The other point to note - Adsense imposes a probation period for some countries.  If you come from Asia or India, your account will have to be six months old before they'll approve you.

   Wow..6 months without earning anything is a dampener. So, should I wait 6 months because I'm from Asia?
   
   Also, can I still earn from the HubPages Amazon program under the HEP? I'm not keen on using my own affiliate links and wish to work through HubPages.

      Do you have an existing blog or website that you could use to apply?   If it's been in existence more than 6 months, that would work.   
      
      You can't earn anything meaningful on HubPages without an Adsense account - you need it to qualify for the other programs.

         I have another account on here that's been in existence for quite a while. I had to set-up this new one for the Squidoo lenses transfer. The older one, however, has no Hubs because I never got down to writing them. I could add some hubs to it but will Adsense look at the date the account was created or the date of the hubs on it? Unfortunately, I don't have my own website or blog.

   When I first joined I also thought I'd be able to join the earning programs but you can't until you get a Google Ad Sense account. I've applied twice and been turned down, first they said I needed 10 hubs well did that then reapplied and was turned down again. Finally someone told me I needed 20 - 25 hubs published with 800 words or more. My hubs have all been over 800 words hubs. My understanding is if you can't get a Google Ad Sense account then you earn nothing from the ads that are placed on your hubs you publish. Which I think this needs to be made up front that writing here you won't make any money, unless Google Ad Sense will accept you even though they place their ads on your articles. Writing on an older account won't get you a Google Ad Sense account since that is the key to getting paid.
