There are some family members which makes enemies seem like angels.  There are family members who are not really there for you at all.  These families are beyond dysfunctional, they can be classified as backstabbing, venomous, and......deadly.   There are family members who love to put other family members under the bus.  There is the mother who thinks of nothing of sabotaging and subverting her children at every turn.  There is the sibling who hates for another sibling to succeed or if the sibling succeeds, will do anything to destroy that success.   There are siblings who are ....quite distant, well you get the drift.    There are families are well, aren't family.   Do YOU agree with this premise?

      (That's a rather eldritch visage.)

If your own family members are not there for you who is? Its a scary scenario. If we can't count on family members, will our neighbors? Will the government? A lack of support by family members can cause a person to develop a negative mind set. One they have trouble pulling themselves out of… they end up with an Us vs. Them mentality and feel like victims instead of winners in the came of life. They could end up homeless, neurotic and worse…dead.

Not necessarily so.  There are people without family support who became successful.   They had other support systems such as friends.   Friends can be family in many cases.   Family does not necessairly mean blood family.   In fact, one is better without certain types of blood family.  Blood family can be a psychically poisonous albatross which drags a person down. There are blood family which one is better off disassociating from in its entirety.

Yes, gm, but ideally, family helps a person with the foundations of social ability. It is hard to make friends at all when your own family wants nothing to do with you. Or it seems that way.  Self esteem initially comes from familial acceptance and fitting in. There is no excuse for dissing family members. In fact acceptance/ kindness is owed.

Sometimes blood family is an accident that one was born into.   That is the family it is best that prudent ones escape from.   Oftentimes in blood families there is no gold and one has to look outside for approval if one is not internally strong enough.   However, if one is aware, one can be strengthened from inside.   What is blood family really?  It is only a happenstance, no more no less.   One can form relationships with a commonality of love and respect from like minded individuals.    Many times, one has grown away and no longer have commonality with one's blood family.

Ideally…  sometimes, it is easier said than done.

But, ideally speaking, I whole heartedly agree with you. Move on. The past is the past. Get out the rake and make your life good. Surround yourself with new comrades who agree with you and are like you. There are so many wonderful people in this world!
              Right?
