I just got a comment and instead of the usual Approve/Deny, I got Not Spam/Delete Forever. I went to the commenter's profile and he had no followers and only two hubs showing although the hub count was 30-something. Also his hubber score was 33--I've never seen one that low. I think I should select "Delete", but first I'd like to know what this is about.
The reason that you received Spam/Delete Catherine is because they are leaving it up to you to decide.
What did the comment say? How many months/years has the Hubber been here? What about Q/A, do they have any of those and what type do they put?
If it's a good comment, approve it. It doesn't matter who it is from.
Many, many times great comments from established Hubbers end up in the spam folder. It's just an algorithm and mistakes are made.
What you should delete are: comments which include links to other Hubs or websites, which are duplicates (some people post the same comments on many Hubs), which have keyword stuffing, gibberish or any thing else you don't want Google to see on your Hub.
The comment sounded like he had read the hub. I guess I have nothing to lose by approving.
I usually check their profile and activity if HP has classified it as spam. I've deleted more than I've approved. I know HP is trying hard to get rid of spammers on the site.
Comments identified as spam can sound genuine and often are, but if commenting only to gain backlinks, it's generally identified as spam. It's one reason HP changed our screen names to no-follow in comments if we're not logged in.
I approved his comment, but I didn't follow or comment on any of his hubs. The comment was specific. It didn't just say vague things like "liked your hub." Thanks for your advice.
Links going to a commenter's Profile are NoFollow, meaning they are not backlinks which help the person in any way. If you are logged in, the link works, but search engines don't credit it as a recommended link.
There are set of Internet Marketers who trying to benefit from back link in comment in spite of the fact that these link get nofollowed.
Comments without links may be true but not well written and look like spam. Some may be genuine.

Normally, I approve 99% of all comments left on my hubs. But twice today, and once yesterday, there were comments left, all by "anonymous," that I simply denied because they were just way out of line. Not demeaning, offensive, hateful, or anything like that...just WAY off topic.In...

I started getting a few spammy comments a few days ago. I posted a thread and someone suggested changing my comment settings to allowing only signed in users being allowed to comment and approval before they were published. So I changed my settings. Today the spam was even worse, took me a half...

Have you received any spam comments on Hubpages?I've been on HP for a long time and this morning was the first that I ever got a spam message to one of my hubs. I denied her comment and deleted her forever, but nonetheless, it was still disturbing. The commenter tried to direct me to another site...

Is anyone else getting a surge in spammy comments in their Hubs? I seem to be getting at least one or two every day now. I only get the opportunity to check my comments once a day, and I delete the spammy ones. I got a snippy comment from another hubber stating "Wow, you let...

I seldom find a comment to my hubs hub that include a business link. Are links allowed in the comment section? Do you reply or do you delete the comment? Thanks.

I just noticed that comments I delete from the 'comments' section on my accounts page are not being deleted from the actual hubs. One of my hubs gets spammed a lot by people posting links and email addresses for 'quack' healthcare. I have clicked the 'spam' button and then clicked...
