As America divides Russia unites, is Novorussia the new Russia?

   A new Russia where any independent country united behind a common history, language, interests will gather to end up as the new commonwealth concept?

      Max, are you thinking other countries are voluntarily "reuniting" with mother Russia? Because my view is that mother Russia is chasing the children with a switch in her hand.
      
      As to the "commonwealth" part... really? Just think of the contradiction in terms; commonwealth vs. Russia, (ie. Soviet Union) 
      
      Do you not think there were valid reasons the former Soviet Union failed?

         So far Crimea refused our diktat and joined Russia. Now since we destabilized Ukraine with our putsch, 2 former Ukrainian regions are rallying Russia can you explain me why if Russia is the monster you pretend it to be? How was Crimea forced to rally Russia? With a referendum? I wish we had it on our soil, a government asking our opinion. I don't see Russia as an hegemonist but the US through NATO. I forgot that the Warsaw pact was to block imperialism. We have two different sources of information leading us to two different views of the world.
         Why do you think that the US is attacking the middle east? Because it is thriving? Or because it is scared that Russia and China are becoming fierce competitors? Our inflation is at 7%, unemployment 23%, our debt... Not the portrait of a strong economy is it?

            So... Crimea was infiltrated by armed groups some with Moscow accents and the existing government was thrown out.  I would not call that a fair and democratic decision like what Scotland is doing.

               Is it a sarcastic tone that I felt in the irony of your comment? Crimea feared to end up like Ukraine, in the hands of thugs that we support, it is the reason why it turned to its former partner/brother to reunite. Did Russia invade it? No. Did we overthrow Ukraine? Yes. If you don't know that yet, what can I say?

         Have you ever been to - Kazan? That is the capital of Autonomous Republic of Tatarstan. I do business with Tatarstan and believe me, that is a thriving and prospering state within Russia.
         So today the federal idea is not new to Russia.
         Was Tartarstan forced to be part of Russia? Quite interesting how Wikipedia approaches this issue. Skip the Russian explanation of that repubic, but while the English version speaks of much pressure from Russia, the German version does not mention pressure but emphasizes the benefits of being part of a larger entity while enjoying economic freedom.
         My personal experience corresponds to the German version. Russia is not the evil villain that most western newsmedia try to tell. It is quite comfortable for an autonomous republic to be part of Russia.Just saying..

         Actually, I spent most of the year outside the U.S. And I really haven't seen much change when I visit. So perhaps I think like the masses.

            Wasn't Mark Twain that said : "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." then why would you think like the mass? Or maybe there's travel and travel. One that means to go from A to B and the other that means to go from A to B discovering A1, A2, A3... to B. You seem to be the former type.
