Teacher gets fired for defending a student against racist bullies

   According to the Advise show on youtube, a teacher was fired from her job for defending a student that was the victim of racial bullying.  This teacher has been employed at the school for 25 years, yet she was fired from her job for sticking up for this student.

   What are your thoughts on this?  Personally, I think she shouldn't be fired at all.  If anything, I think she should get a raise.  Not only that, but I think she deserves "teacher of the year" for that crap because we need more teachers that'll  stick up for students.    However, what are your thoughts?

      My thought is that nowhere in that video is there any indication of what the teacher did, except a statement from the mother that it doesn't matter as the teacher was standing up for HER child. 
      
      I'm sorry, but it does very much matter.  At this point the extremely limited information available is that a hearing was held and the firing was upheld.  The actions, in other words, have been investigated but as so often happens in our world the mob doesn't care, just as they don't care what the facts are.

         I watched the video and it seems from what I can garner that the teacher said the students doing the bullying were ugly because what they were doing was ugly and should not be tolerated. No idea what else she might have said. Ugly is really small potatoes compared to what was said to the African American kid by the bullies.

            Then you got more out of it than I did, even though as you point out there may have been much more said or done - the clear objective of the video was to raise emotions on the side of the teacher.
            
            But is calling students bad names sufficient to fire a teacher?  Probably, in today's climate that says kids must be treated as though they will break at the slightest breeze.  Reminds me somewhat of an incident from my high school days; a group was caught encouraging "sexual misconduct" from a mentally handicapped student during gym class.  The teacher picked up the ring leader (a foot taller than the teacher) by his shirt front, slammed him against the wall and threatened great bodily harm (to be PC) if he did it again.  The problem stopped and no one was hurt but today that coach would never have stepped foot in another school...IF he managed to stay out of jail.

      It isn't easy to go against the flow. The teacher was not only right in what she did but also courageous. I would like to think that I would have done the same thing but you can't really know until you are placed in that situation. It seems that that particular American school district needs an overhaul. They seem to be stuck in a 1920s KKK sort of world. Very strange. The students educated there are going to be in for a shock when they discover that the American president is African American. If they ever visit or decide to work in New York or Philadelphia they might have a tough time adjusting.
      The same can be said for Sydney, Australia where bigotry isn't tolerated and where that teacher would have received a medal for what she did. There is some reverse racism in Australia but generally people do make an effort to get along and teach their kids to do the same. My thoughts at any rate.
