Oceans, mountains, plains, rivers or forests?

What is your favorite natural landscape to visit?

I live near a mountain area which also has--if you go far up enough--a very nice aspen and pine forest (even Bristle Cone pines--some of the world's oldest organisms), so that is everyday to me.  As are the plains, since I am from the inland plains originally.

Oceans are where it is at!  So eternal--I even have an alarm clock set to sound like tides.  And when I want to get away--I want to be by the sea--any sea.  Cold stormy Atlantic sea, or warm, wide Pacific in CA.

We live close to the same mountains and I am also from the midwest.  Mountains are my preference.

Warm weather suits me fine.  I have lived near the ocean and in these wooded forested mountains.  I never been to the desert areas though so I don't know about them.  I kind of like just about any lanscape as long as I can be with nature---not in a tent but a real house!  The sounds I like are the ocean though.  It soothes my brain.  I like to listen to nature tapes---all of them and Celtic and also American Indian for relaxing.

They all sound like beautiful places - pine forests and the ocean are wonderful. I was born and spent most of my life near the ocean, and do miss it. I live in the mountains, but they are now a familiar friend.

I have never been to a desert, but I would love to go and explore the sweeping deserts of the East, and contemplate life, creation and the universe. I watched a documentary about Iran tonight, and I like the look of the trackless desert, and the ancient ruins covered by the sand. That sounds like my sort of place. smile

Mind you, stopping anywhere to look at nature is always good. smile

After living in the Swiss alps when I was a youngster,I'm a fan of any mountains with snow on them.

    Global warming sucks ass.....

With you on that - we have snow on the mountains at the moment, with crisp, clear skies. smile

Never been to Switzerland, but Austria is beautiful! smile

We have snow on the San Francisco Peaks--lots of it--which is very welcome.

The deserts are different (and encompass much of AZ).  They are beautiful here--I've never in my life seen so many wild flowers--but I'm still getting used to the desert's particular kind of beauty.  I haven't even written much about them yet, which is unusual for me...

rocky ocean shores with mountains behind.  Any rocky, boisterous coast.
But I live by an estuary on a bluff in the salt marsh, and that's beautiful, too.

I am quite content in the borealis forest with wild critters for neighbors. smile

My neighbors ARE critters, especially the ones in lot 43.  I like to watch the ducks and geese at the waste water ponds out back.

Having just come back from Costa Rica, I'd have to say the simultaneous combo of mountains, forests and beach worked for me.

I recommend the beach town of Dominical for all three.

I love the Ocean , as I once lived right on the beach and enjoyed every minute of it. smile
I wrote a poem about it, and after the copyright comes back, I will publish it here on HubPages. smile

I love the mountains. And the caves. Not that I dislike anything new in particular.

As I am an intense lover of the Nordic, scandinavian landscapes, it is a lot of trees, around lakes, mountains, snow... I really find something magical about those sceneries. I'd love to go to Norway, and see Fjords... so far I'm gonna do with moving to Finland, the lakes, forests, saunas... and the snow!

I live in Thailand. You should check out a place called Rai Leh. It's a climber's paradise. The cliffs drop right down to the beach. Its one of the most beautiful places I've been. It gets climbers from all over the world.

I live by the ocean. But would prefer to be living in or next door to a forest.

A dark, malevolent one. As in LOTR. That would be wonderful.

Living in the AZ I'm surrounded by mountains, so I must say i love visiting the ocean, I feel so small( in a good way)

      Wow...this thread has been resurrected!

I love visiting the ocean, too, spiderpam--for the same reason.  I like all these landscapes, but oceans have this eternal quality.  And the sound of the tides/waves are so soothing.

Oh - oceans, no contest.  Forests:  too smothery    Plains:  I don't appreciate.   Mountains:  Not my thing.   Rivers:  Too rustic, too urban, or too non-special - depending on the river.

    don't like plains at all.

deserts are pretty, but not just plains.

hawaii has some of all the rest...ocean, mountains, thick old trees.  old hawaii would be ideal...new hawaii has too many tourists.

Definitely mountains. However, I would like to combine mountains with oceans. Hence, I am dreaming of places like Norway, Alaska or Tiera del Fuego (Argentine). Nevertheless, I am pretty sure that with the 'right setting' you can enjoy almost every type of landscape. Once, I even enjoyed visiting old industrial wastelands (abandoned steel works and stuff like that).
