   It's official: Google Penguin Update 3.0 was released late Friday:

   It usually takes about a week for the release to be updated in all Google data centers, but webmasters have already reported that the algorithm has affected their traffic from Google search.
   
   This is the algorithm which targets webspam, on-page and off-page links, keyword stuffing, etc.

      Google usually rolls out new updates on a Friday when the lower weekend traffic phase starts on HubPages.  We should be able to see the effect on total HP traffic on Tuesday – Thursday stats this week.
      
      If you want to know if your Hubs have been affected, check the rankings on Google for your targeted keywords.

               If you have Webmaster Tools, you can find your Top Pages average position and Top Queries position under Search Traffic - Search Queries.  It also gives a lot of other helpful info.

   One of the sites I write for is trying to get us to optimize for Bing now.  Apparently Bing does something where it features certain webpages on the front page very prominently and this site wants to take advantage of that.

         Examiner.  They just sent out an email.  It's mostly standard SEO stuff that I learned on Yahoo Voices.  We shall see if it works.  I know, for me, I've begun using Bing because Google is just not doing it for me as much anymore.

            I've been using Bing's featured news stories on Examiner for a while now and always get good Bing placement and views. But now there's going to be a lot of Examiner competition for the Bing keywords since they sent out that email. Everyone is going to jump on that bandwagon.

            Examiner qualifies for news ribbon placement on Bing. Most sites including hubpages do not. That is because examiner managed to get Bing to consider it a news site not a content site.

      Search engine market share for September, 2014:
      Google: 71.2%
      Bing/Yahoo: 12%
      
      In January, 2014:
      Google: 77.74%
      Bing/Yahoo: 12.63%
      
      (The difference for Google search has been due to several countries blocking the search engine, such as China.)

         For me, there's no point in optimizing for Bing. Google is still king and it's not going anywhere. I consider any traffic to my sites from Bing to be bonus.

      I think Bing will do as good as Google in the long run.Had enough of google it controls the world too much.
      
      I set up bing yesterday, but couldn't get past Step 3 because of create and uploading sitemaps, which to me is each hub,  I think the problem is we can't use HTML here on HubPages.
      (Please correct me if I'm not right)

            I wouldn't say Examiner is desperate. I still get some awesome Google News views. Examiner writers who write news articles target Google News, Bing News and Yahoo News search, not the regular "evergreen" web search traffic. Examiner is still going strong.

                  It was pretty much just a gentle reminder to not forget about Bing News with an added tip on light SEO. News writers typically hit Google News for the latest news stories and tend to forget about Bing News and Yahoo News. Examiner often sends out emails with advice on how their writers can get more exposure for news approved articles. Regular Google web search really doesn't even come into play regarding the email they sent this morning.

                     Agreed, it was really a no big deal thing, but I was surprised about them saying to get optimized for Bing. 
                     
                     I write mostly evergreen or events, rarely news.  My news stories get great exposure.  That's one thing I have to say about Examiner, they do promote my articles so I get a lot more page views there than on any other revenue-sharing site I've written on.

   Just checked my keyword ranking on a few of my more 'popular' hubs and they seem to be doing better, but not where they were...yet   Since I haven't checked since the last update not sure if they were slowly improving or not.

    This just in: Google Penguin 3.0 is now fully rolled out and in only four days.  There still isn't much information released, primarily because Matt Cutts is still on vacation.

    The previous announcement that the Penguin update was completed was made by John Mueller who is with Google Trends, not Webspam. In a post today by Pierre Far, it was announced that the Penguin 3.0 Update affected 1% of all searches in English and that the roll-out is still in progress.  In fact, he said, it will take several weeks to finish its cycle worldwide:

    I've noticed in the last few days my hubs are being crawled less frequently.  There are days between a crawl on some hubs rather than hours!  This is not normal for me and I don't recall this happening with previous updates.  I checked WMTools also to verify. Anyone else see this?  My views have slightly increased, but from other sources, including other Googles outside of US.
