What does it mean? Is it okay? Everyone makes improvements and gets a nip/tuck/suck etc if they can afford to do so? So is there an extra underlined issue or implication for women of color who make drastic changes? Is it just a fixation with improving oneself or addiction to improvement or lack of satisfaction within yourself.
www.alltreatment.com defines the following disorder:
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Cosmetic surgery addicts often suffer from a disorder known as Body Dysmorphic Disorder, which is defined as a mental illness that causes one to be fixated on one’s own minor or imagined physical flaw.
Many experts feel that the best plastic surgery is minor and unnoticeable. When the appearance of a patient begins to look fake or unnatural is when it becomes too much. Cosmetic surgery addicts, however, feel a constant need to adjust and “perfect” their appearance through plastic surgery.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery:
From 1997 to 2010, the increase in cosmetic procedures has increased by over 155%.
The top five cosmetic procedures (2010): breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, angioplasty, and breast reduction.
Women had 92% of the total cosmetic procedures in 2010.
Is the need for cosmetic surgery just a desire for women to keep up with some unattainable image as defined by standards of beauty that can never be met. From butt implants to breast jobs to nose jobs gone wrong (Television Series “Botched”) to a look that is so far distorted from reality one can only gasp and ask the question: Is everything okay?
I think it is basically an expression of personal power. "I can look so good… beyond good… I can and I will. (Plus it will bring me lots of money.)" It is like owning an expensive car.. a status symbol. My body, my look, my power… in reality, its just "MY EGO," and ultimately only a fleeting illusion. (Or for some, lots of money.)
IMO
Good perspective. Better look, more money. I guess that works for some.
"My body, my look, my power… in reality, its just "MY EGO," - but isn't the power in loving who God created as is? Are you selling you or just an image? The image I guess. If you're interesting in being acquired like a toy off the shelf, perhaps taking the chance of medical issues or complications are worth it for some.
People must remember the core never changes. Before having a baby it would be wise to review the baby pictures. Remember the man who sued his wife for being ugly when his wife delivered their baby girl. First he thought his wife committed infidelity. The DNA test proved the baby was his. The husband discovered his wife had undergone approximately $100,000 worth of cosmetic surgery in S. Korea. He sued her for false pretenses and won a judgement of $120,000
Yes, the power is in loving ourselves as God created us: as is. AS IS!
Isn't that good enough???
When we eat right, as in not mixing overly much, no white flour, no white sugar, not overeating and not eating late at night, the natural body is comfortable within and beautiful without in its own way. Most movie stars know this and thats why they stay youthful looking longer than most. It just takes a little faith, motivation and self discipline. When it becomes a way of life, its easy.
Also when you eat right, exercise becomes joyful! Use your quads and your thighs to stay physically young. For instance, get some tap shoes, put a board down on the floor before a mirror and tap dance every morning to music. Thats one half hour of good pain-free aerobic exercise for sure! Plus, it wakes you up for the rest of the day! (You don't need lessons; just start shuffling and before you know it your mind is making up all sorts of crazy steps.)

What would you fix if you had the money? Personally, I'd opt for a facelift and a nose job. What about you?

Do you believe that plastic surgery is a necessity or just plain stupid vanity?I think that the only reason for plastic surgery is a car accident or a burn victim that has lost part of thier face etc..otherwise why get cut if you don't really need it? is it really a necessity to look all tight and...

What do you think about plastic surgery done on girls so they look like dolls?I don't think it is even ethical to make plastic surgery to make someone look like a cartoon character. I would question mental health of those girls, but if it is already happening and it is, it's time to stop and...
