How to deal with a tricky neighbor??

I have been living in my house for 2 years now and when we first moved in our neighbor immediately introduced herself and we seemed to get along just fine.  We had a rather good neighborly relationship--my husband would mow her lawn, plow her drive-way, help fix her car and in return she would get our kids off the school bus and babysit on occassion.  We would watch each others homes when the other was away and would always invite each other over for BBQ's.

Last night however, our friendly relationship seems to have taken a serious nose dive!

At approximately 1:00 am we were awakened to three sheriff's banging on our front door.  Apparently our wonderful neighbor called 911 and reported that we were having a domestic dispute in front of our 5 children.  Of course this was completely FALSE!  My husband and I have never had issues with domestic violence of any type. After reassuring the officers that there was nothing going on and that everyone in the home was fine, my husband and I spent hours trying to figure out what had just happened.

So, this morning I attempted to call this neighbor to ask her what had happened.  I was convinced her teenage son was playing a prank--allbeit not a very funny one but nonetheless a prank. After attempting to call several times I still have not got in touch with her nor do I have any answers.

I did however learn from another neighbor that she has started drinking heavily again and she tends to hallucinate while drunk.  This is not the first time she has done something like this and I shouldn't expect it to be the last.

Now, if this really is the truth how do I deal with this?  I don't need a crazy drunk neighbor calling the police on us every night.  Any advice???

I would go to sheriff's office and talk to them. Tell them what you know. You might need to endure a couple of more nights like that, but when they see what's going on they'll take note and stop bothering you - of course providing sheriff's office does not have anything personal against you, which is unlikely. smile

I would not try to talk to that neighbor though.  Personally I would not want an explanation from someone that starts hallucinating, or even starts making things up.

I would leave a report filed with the Police so they least have a heads up whether it's going to be worth their time. Sad really as we all know the story bout the boy who cried wolf hmm
