Is it Midlife Crisis or Midlife Opportunity?

   It can start as early as middle thirties for some until full maturity about the age of sixty-five. The period varies among individuals. A mid-life crisis may occur when a person realizes conflicts or dissatisfaction within themselves because of unrealized goals, self-perceptions or physical changes as a result of aging or health issues.    Have you ever experienced this period in life? How did you handle it? And, if you haven't reach that plateau yet ... how do you think you might handle it?

      For many, midlife is a time that they can really evolve into their OWN persona.  They have relinquished parental conditioning/expectations in terms of their beliefs and life expectations.  They are mature enough from life experiences to ascertain what THEY want and HOW they intend to live their lives.   Midlife can be a time of AUTHENTIC LIVING if done right!

   There are times in my life when I assess where I am going, but I wouldn't call it a midlife crisis.  It usually happens when I am finished with a big project - after I graduated, I wanted to buy a house. After I bought a house, I had to decide what I wanted to do next. I think if you live mindfully, and create and follow goals, you are less likely to be dissatisfied, because you won't have unrealized goals.  Sure, there will be things you forgo to do other things, but hopefully you can realize that you made the best decision based on the conditions and facts you had at the time.

   At 45, I chucked my corporate career, and went into business for myself. It was less of a crisis than a course correction, at a time when I could afford it, both in years and dollars.

   My midlife was one of the best times of my life. The children were grown and I was able to try some of the things I always dreamed of doing. You have more money in your pocket to afford some of things you've always wanted. Some dreams you find that you wanted aren't so great once you have them. It is a time to try out new things. It is all in the attitude you have. If you are unhappy, it is a good time to make changes.

   Physically is different from mental my mind and my life seems consumed with spiritual things and grands. Both I love! And I share the best of me with family and friends .

   I decided to have a mid life crisis in 2000.  I would have been 46.  I bought a 1998 Black Dodge Dakota 4X4.  I LOVED that truck.  Unfortunately so did my teenagers. My oldest had just gotten his licence when he slid into another car in Yosemite two months after we got it.   His girlfriend ran into it with her suburban. It was frequently going four wheeling.  Apparently nobody was driving when it did that, since no one ever knew how 100 pounds of mud got stuck on the undercarriage.    If the truck could have told stories I would have been gray much younger.   It came to a bad end in 2006. 
   I am thankful it was a safe truck, nobody was ever hurt in it. It got people, in an emergency, safely through a blizzard with an inexperienced driver behind the wheel.  When it met it's end there were eye witnesses that agreed the driver was doing nothing wrong when the trailer it was pulling jumped the hitch. Those teens that loved the truck, are still loved by their mother, and her mid life crisis is still something we laugh about.
