Adding In-Text Amazon Links Instead of Capsule

   Is there any way to add a link to an Amazon product within the text rather than having to always use the Amazon capsule? I used to do that when I had my own Amazon Associates account, but I'm not sure if it's possible using the HP Amazon Program. Personally, I click on links within text more often than I click on obvious ads or pictures when I'm reading online.

      Yes, you are permitted to use in-text links in Hubs, but you are limited to 2 links to the same domain per Hub.

         Christy, I use the old HP Amazon ID program, rather than the new one.
         
         I am pretty sure when I do in-text links that I am getting credit for them using my ID under the original program?

   How do we do that using HP's Amazon Program and still get credit for the sales? I know how to do in-text links, but I'm wanting to link to Amazon products. I no longer have my own Amazon Associates account, so I have to use the HubPages Amazon program.

      Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. With the HubPages program, you will need to use product capsules. You can only do in-text links using your own Amazon Affiliate ID.

         I think this gives me a clue to my issues.  So frustrating. My content was moved from Squidoo - do you happen to know if the SquidooAMazon links came over as 'capsules' or do I change something.
         I am sure this seems like a simple, sort of basic question but I am just having trouble figuring out the parts.  I tend to think it would have been easier to learn as a total newby not an import - I feel like a hybrid !

            My one Hub is a former Lens. I used the Squidoo Amazon Module for Amazon products, and they transferred over to HubPages as capsules. But I have since removed them. I lost my Amazon Associates account when that Lens was still on Squidoo, so I had no choice but to use the Squidoo Amazon Module. What sort of trouble are you having?

               well I get flagged for too many associate links but in one case had just 3 amazon links to my fave bulbs.  On theother hand I saw a hub shown as an example of a good hub with many.  So I thought perhaps I was using an incorrect method.  I also have trouble with Allposters.  They have some really pretty ones that show lovely flowers that I have grown - but I seem to be doing those in an incorrect way - each gets flagged for about 3 links each so will have to dig deeper.

                  I'm pretty sure you can only have no more than two links to the same domain. So 3 Allposters links are probably too many. I'm not sure about the Amazon links. I guess it depends on how you're using them. If you make links to Amazon using your own Amazon Associates links and include three, then I'm pretty sure that would be too many. Someone more experienced with HubPages would know for sure.

         Actually it can be done. Highlight the text and click the "link" icon. Then instead of entering a url, select the Amazon tab and enter the keywords for the Amazon product. HubPages makes this into an Amazon hyperlink with the 60/40 ratio of impressions.

            Let me get this clear. You are saying to go to amazon and find the product you want. Then enter the title of that product and use it as the link instead of a url?
            
            I'm going to test that. I'll be back!
            
            Ok, it works. However, the normal hubpage tracking ID is hubpages-20. Why does this show up. hubpages-vig-20

               It uses your Amazon affiliate code on 60% of the impressions and HP's code on 40% of the impressions.

                  Yes, but what would be the purpose of changing the tracking ID. Maybe to indicate it came from a text link??

                     The purpose of changing the tracking ID's (affiliate codes) is so that you get credit for 60% of the impressions and HP gets credit for their 40% of the impressions.
                     
                     The 60/40 method works the same in Amazon capsules and text links as long as you let HP generate the Amazon text link by selecting the Amazon tab.
                     
                     It also makes no difference if you use your own Amazon affiliate code or through the HP ad program. It still shares 60/40 between the two affiliate codes.
                     
                     You may not know this, but when you sign up for Amazon under the HP ad program, you get your own affiliate code that is valid only via your Hubs. It's necessary to have individual tracking affiliate codes to control the 60/40 sharing of impressions.
