Getting your hub featured

Recently I've noticed that numerous writers here are complaining about having articles unfeatured or having trouble getting them featured.  I have not had this problem for years and thought a few points of advice would help some of you to have an easier time of it.

No matter how many guidelines you follow, your work will not succeed if it is not correctly written.  So, if you do not have a strong background in the use of the English Language, the next best thing you can do is to write your article on a word processor and then do a grammar and spelling check.

Once you finish your article and have done this check, also do a “find and replace” and count your keywords.  If you have many more than 1% in any article, go back and restructure your sentences to reduce that number.

Use the Google Keyword Tool to help you find searchable keywords, do a search to check out the competition and also use a Character Counter to make sure your title is not too long.  Keep it at 55 or fewer characters.

Always create a summary of less than 160 words that states, as specifically as possible, what your article is about.  Be careful not to stuff it with key words when you do this, and always try to make it as interesting as possible.

Paragraphs should always begin with a topic sentence and end with a closing sentence unless you are a very sophisticated writer.  The same is true for your articles. There should be a beginning, a middle and an end, and your final sentence should somehow summarize what you have told your reader.

One of the biggest problems I see with certain articles is that what people write does not match their title.  This is where you can become unfeatured due to content.  If you are writing about apples, leave oranges and bananas out of the discussion!

Don't crowd your article with images or ads.  Space them evenly and make sure they are relevant to what you are writing.  Keep ads to a minimum.

Include at least one video and one other capsule...a poll, map, chart or whatever.

Remember that you are presenting a total package, so let your finished article sit for a day then re read and proofread it again prior to publication.

What matters is not just what you write, but how you present it.  Your article must be cohesive, interesting, attractive and, of course, correctly written.

These things will not necessarily bring you more page views, but they will get your work featured every time.  I know, because that's how it has worked for me for years.

Okey, I checked my longest title. It was 60 characters (photography).
I was able to change the title to 55 characters (photos).

Thanks for the tip on that. I will remember to check that from now on. smile

I thought the Amount of characters including spaces of a Title was 67.  I do hope that is correct and not your figure because most of my titles are over 55.

Hopefully other writers will enlighten us on the correct number.  I can not remember where I got my figure from

As far as I know, 55 characters is correct.  I rarely go over that because anything beyond that number does not appear in the URLs

Something that helped me a great deal was when another hubber pointed out that every single word in a hub is a key word!  Thus, you do not jut have to depend on one word or phrase to bring readership when you are writing.
