In the last several months, since I was imported from Squidoo, I have been actively reading the forums and occasionally commenting.

I am simply amazed at the number of people who ask for help, and then become irritated, huffy, antagonistic, and "hurt", when that help is offered. Most of the seasoned Hubbers who take the time to investigate why someone might be having an issue, are trying to help. Shouldn't the help be appreciated?

Those who help the most, are not paid to help. It certainly does not benefit them personally, to help someone improve their articles. They take time from their own lives, to do it. I would like to see some more appreciation shown to them.

Several times, I have received help. I am so glad someone sacrificed some time that belonged to them, to help me.

I absolutely agree with you.  I have seen this time and again, and in many cases, the people who post asking for help only want to argue and blame everybody else for their problems.  Frankly, I think we have a number of people here who do not  belong on a quality site such as this one and am surprised that the team doesn't dump them.

It's true that not everyone takes advice and criticism gracefully or in the spirit it was intended, sadly. But I am constantly impressed by the time and effort many experienced Hubbers spend helping others. HubPages really is a great place to grow as a writer for those who truly want to learn.

Christy, I am likewise impressed. I feel that gratitude is a rare commodity, and would like to see more of it in use.

This is such a nice tribute to fellow hubbers and a great reminder to appreciate support when others take their time to help someone. Thanks for this thread, Emily.

Some people are genuinely surprised by the advice they are given and initially react with anger, but then they cool down and realize nobody is trying to sabotage them. Others are just combative and looking for an argument to begin with.

You can tell which type you are dealing with by the title of their post and their opening, like "Please help I don't know what I'm doing wrong!" versus "This place is a joke and HP staff are morons!"

It only takes a few posts to see if someone genuinely wants help or if they're simply trying to get views and attention. I'm always happy to help those who truly want advice.

I totally agree.  It is too bad that some people want to blame their inadequacies on the team or whoever rather than sincerely trying to improve themselves.  Posts like theirs are a total waste of everybody's time.

Oh, I don't know that those threads are a "total waste of everybody's time". They can have some entertainment value, but they have educational value, frustrating as it may or may not be. When members who know their stuff on this writing platform share, I hope that many members are silently reading along and picking up on all the good tips...and putting it into action on their hubs.  Otherwise, it really could feel like a waste of time and energy.
        Keep the Hope!

You are right Susie. I do follow even if sometimes, I refrain from making comments. I sure learn a lot from the comments of people.

I couldn't agree more.  Whenever I ask for help, I thank each & every person who responds.  I've learned so much from this feed.  I find everyone so kind.  I hope in the future that I can be more helpful to others.

Maybe we could make another post so these "I'd like feedback on my hub..." can go one place only and not show up in multiple forums post?????

There already is a forum for this called "Improve My Hub" or something similar.  Why people are not using it is beyond me!

I totally agree that help should be appreciated! Do not care about the motive behind it because that's not your job. Be thankful and move ahead.

You make such a great point here. This is true for not only HubPages, but for alot more services where people offer help. Receiving help from a community who doesn't get paid to help you, but still offers help to you should be appreciated.
