Try iwriter, elance, and odesk. There are scammers on those sites too so you need to be careful. Look around the web forums, you can find where the writers are working.

                Beginner po ako dito.
I wonder if newbie writers like me could also earn in sites like this.

I used HP as my work portfolio. My more serious work are on this site. I have my own blogs for other types of articles. My daughter, who must be the same age as you, writes full time. She earns a respectable amount from those 3 sites that I mentioned, specifically iwriter. But she is an elite plus writer who is ranked among the top ten highly rated writers of the site. You can also try essays.com. It is Philippine-based but pays lower.

A site a friend of mine worked for was Appen Butler Hill. He was rating websites for quality for Google as a web search elevator. Good $$$.

Sorry for the bad experience Earl but I think hubpages is a better place to start. A friend told me about app design and monetization in microsoft though I do not have the skill yet.

To avoid scam, type the name of the site on google add with "scam" and find out if any have been scammed by the site in question.

The WAHM website is good about posting legit work-at-home opportunities, although I don't know how many of them are open to international residents. Might be worth checking out, though. http://www.wahm.com/jobs.html

They also have a forum where you can discuss opportunities and experiences with others who work from home -- in other words, find out about scammers before you take the plunge, and learn tips to increase your chances of landing jobs at different websites or companies. http://www.wahm.com/forum/

I have used WAHM for years but only got one lead for test scoring job. I find most are low paying positions anyway.

Elance is good. Behance if you have developer skills.
My personal experience is AngelList ( angel.co ) for across-the-board jobs.
