After being "successfull" on Hubpages I have decided to be on my own

   I have very patiently blogged on hubpages (yeah I know it's not a blog but technically it's kind of ) for 8 months now and I really advise newbies to do like me to gain some real experiences ( as exposed in this article http://hubpages.com/hub/Why-switch-to-hubpages ) and after some success (see my daily earnings here http://hubpages.com/hub/Adsense-Earnings-day-by-day ) I have decided that it is now worth to be on my own with a Wordpress Platform.
   
   I will still continue to blog on Hubpages for telling my progress with this new venture.
   
   And I will always be gratefull to Hubpages and should make an article one day on this blog when it will be worth that is when I would get enough traffic on it to drive fame and new referals to  Hubpages. Hope so in a few months realitiscally.

      For those who asked in comments why I stopped to update, well day to day update is too daunting for me ! So It will still be daily earnings but only updated weekly.

      Its interesting... I was thinking of doing something similar. And I just published a hub about my success and how to achieve the same kind of results (http://hubpages.com/_GoNow/hub/hubpagessuccess)
      I'd like to try running a blog for myself and see where it takes me. Of course I would keep writing on hubpages too because I enjoy it here so much...

         Yeah and then these guys got banned anyway! And they were making $200k/pa yeah right!  And now they are trying to make a living training others to use Adsense! Try checking out an authorative blog like http://courtneytuttle.com/2007/04/12/ma … s-for-you/
         I think a better reason to keep sites quiet - at least while you get them running is to stop someone better than you getting there first - but honestly there is so much competition unless you personally know a lot of untrustworthy full-time SEO marketers  Ican't see it happening!

            I agree. I don't think that you should ever tell someone your idea for a new site, especially the url, as they may steal the url and the idea before you get the chance to purchase it and begin building. But, once you begin, I don't understand why one wouldn't publicize a site... I mean even if you don't tell anyone about it, search engines will pick it up and people will still see it...
            
            So... confused...

    This sounds rather like a guy I knew, who had an idea for a new product.  He'd been working on it for a few years.
    
    I said, "this sound really good, why don't you look for a business angel to finance you?"
    
    His answer?  "Yes, but if I tell anyone about my idea, they might steal it."
    
    I often wonder if he ever found a way to sell it without telling anyone about it.....

    Me too, Whitney.  I can understand Makemoney not wanting to tell people what his NEW idea is, but his first post says he is already making money from other sites - those are the ones that I expected to see linked on his profile.

       You misunderstood, the ones I don't want to show are the other ones on hubpages. In fact as I posted in the comments http://hubpages.com/_hubpagesblog/hub/A … day-by-day they are of low quality I would be too ashamed to show them . Still some are making money.
       
       As for my own blogs well as I posted here http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/2475 I'm only on the stage on setting one of them and it's really daunting to get all the technical stuffs done so Hubpages is great because everything is done for you.
       
       It will take many months in fact I expect at least one year before I get the same money level than on Hubpages but I expect to be able to do more thereafter because I am more free to use my own spaces and ads networks that's why I'm doing it.
       
       If it is successfull I may then show them to you all

    After tracing back to your hub where you posted your day-to-day earnings etc., I really like the fact that --at least as a newbie-- I can learn as much from the comments and the forum as from the info available through the posts.
    
    Maybe by the time you come back and start a new thread, I'll be able to comment on earnings, even insufficient ones!
    
    So far, the best part for me is that it's fun.

    You might do OK, collegepolitico, because you write about very topical subjects.  I know it wouldn't work for me because I already tried it.
    
    I started out with two blogs.  I put quite a bit of effort into social bookmarking and promotion, but my traffic was awful.  If I saw 20 visitors a week, I was impressed.  Then I joined HubPages, and so far I've had over 6,000 page views here - although the only promotion I've done is to put a link to my profile on my Helium and Facebook profiles! 
    
    It's easy to underestimate the visibility that HubPages have compared to an individual blog - until you try going it alone.

       Totally agree with Marisa on this one - I've had exactly the same experience - 20 is a red letter day on my other sites - Im getting 10X that on hubpages - but the trick is to make that into $ not numbers!

          "with Blogger you get 100% of adsense revenue instead of 60%. Nevertheless without seo experience you will probably get null traffic so it's better to stay on hubpages if you're a total newbie. If you're not any more or if you are sure to dominate a niche, then why not ? That's what I have done with one of my favorite topic."
          
          So I will not play the same game on my individual blogs: I will do it only either for niche I have chances to dominate or for affiliates marketing (I think it's no good to do that on hubpages).

    I keep trying!  I feel I am learning a lot of Hub Pages, so this is worth it to me.  Helium also has taught me a lot, more about writing correctly.
    
    On Hub Pages I am learning more about how to Do things.  Did anyone see my cats?
    
    I do have some ideas for some serious articles.  bjp

    One thing I am wondering, are you guys mostly talking about adsense revenue that you earn from your hubpages ..or revenue that you earn mostly from all your sources. blogs. websites, hubs!!

    Size does matter - Number of Hubs - Number of Blogs - Content - Probably people can make a living here with about 1500 hubs -- in case of not having any SMART BLOGS !

       As I can see from my referals (about 50) not 1 person over 10 will create hubs seriously (1 per day of 300 to 500 words), so the 9 persons over 10 will obligatorily fail.

    I think what he's saying is that he can see people signing up under his referrals, but most of them don't go on to make Hubs.  I wouldn't say they are "failing" - how can you fail if you haven't tried?  It just means that after they signed up, they either had a change of heart or simply never got around to it.

    Oh, I wasn't sure. But I guess referrals are the same as traffic. There is good and bad ways of getting it. I have 45 referrals and 61 hubs made with 5,000 page views in the last 6 weeks.
    
    Quality rather than quantity I guess. They must be successful referrals, LOL 
    
    I dearly wish I knew who they were though so I could sort of watch out for them, encourage them and so on

       I've been promoting hubpages for less than one month ago so If I want to compare with you I would have to wait a little bit. But  45 referrals for 61 hubs is not much it's less than 2 hubs per referal this is poor quality for me.
       
       At the beginning I was promoting hubpages without selection, now I try to discard all people who just quick rich scheme because I know they will be too lazy to commit any work.

    Mark, I haven't done much promotion on other sites, so I only have 8 referrals, and I'm pretty sure most (if not all) are writers that I made a point of emailing personally to invite them.

    I have not really had any kind of wild success from affiliate marketing, except a job I got at Elance writing for this guy who has a website about it. I write 10 blurbs a week for him about all this crazy make-a-zillion dollars a month on the web software. I don't know if I'm just stupid or what, but I find that my money comes mostly from selling articles outright. Ad Sense doesn't buy my coffee, not even if I avoid Starbucks.
    
    I like HubPages because I meet so many nice people here and get to write about what I want. Those of you who are actually making $$$$ here, I say, hoo-rah!
